    Raiden, Nirvaan take top-2 slots in Novice class at Sepang

    Sepang, 26 July 2019: Indian kart racers from Team Rayo Racing, Raiden Samervel, and Nirvaan Chandna put up a fine show bagging first and second in the Novice Category of the fourth round of the AutoInc Asia Max Challenge 2019 at Sepang, Malaysia, last Sunday. Both teenagers participated in the Micro Max category and finished 12th and 13th overall, respectively.

    Qualifying saw Timofey Mikhaylov grab overall pole position with a lap time of 55.141 seconds. Thirteen-year-old Nirvaan posted a lap time of 56.623 seconds, to emerge quickest in the Novice category. Teammate Raiden was a mere 7 hundredths of a second behind, with a lap time of 56.696, second out of the six novices on the grid.

    The Heat 1 saw the two Indians start eleventh and twelfth and in a relatively straight forward race, Raiden managed to get ahead to finish ninth, one second ahead of Nirvaan in tenth.

    Heat 2 proved to be a big setback for the weekend. The duo started well, with Nirvaan managing to move ahead. Unfortunately, he made contact with another racer ahead, launching his kart into the air and he landed in the path of Raiden. The two collided & fell right down the order to last & eventually finished at the tail end.

    The finals had all racers start on the basis of their Pre Final result, which saw Raiden start eleventh, while Nirvaan started fourteenth. The very close & competitive mid grid meant that there was little the duo could do to move up the order. Although Raiden improved his lap time marginally he finished twelfth, 1.3 seconds ahead of Nirvaan in thirteenth. In the novice category, the duo was first and second, ahead of Eason.

    “It was unfortunate that the incident in heat 2 played an important role, in them not being able to produce a good result in the final. I would have been happier if they could have translated their pace from practice into the races. However, considering that it is only their second race weekend at this level and that they outperformed all other novices, it is a credible performance.” said Steve Hodges, Technical Director of Rayo Racing, who accompanied the racers to Malaysia.

    “Racing at the Asian Rotax at the 1.2km Sepang circuit in Malaysia was very exciting. I was up against the best and it was a great learning experience. Winning the Novice Category was a moment I will never forget!” said 12-year-old Raiden Samervel.

    Nirvaan Chandna added “The race weekend was a good learning experience, especially driving on the Sepang international kart circuit, which is quite a fast track. Racing against so many racers from around Asia also taught me a lot. I intend to work harder and do better.”

    Bengaluru, 14 July 2019: Ruhaan Alva and Ishaan Madesh stamped their authority in the X-30 Junior and Cadet classes respectively winning all the four races in the Round 4 while 17-year old Nirmal Umashanker found a late challenger in Abhirath Shetty of Bengaluru, who notched off two wins in the 4-race Round 4,  but the Chennai lad came back to win the last race and won the maiden X30 Senior Class Championship for the year 2019 with a round to spare. While Ruhaan has to wait for the last round, Ishaan Madesh too has clinched the Cadet Class Championship title with a round to spare as he enjoys an unbeatable lead of over 40 points.

    Nirmal, a 2nd-year mechanical engineering student, restored some pride winning two of the four races and bagged the inaugural Championship title winning the X-30 Senior Class with a huge unbeatable lead of 56 points going into Round four next month with 40 points on offer. He garnered 137 points with Debarun Banerjee of Delhi trailing in second place with only 81 points.

    The JK Tyre National Karting Championship weekend which concluded at the 1.2km Meco Kartopia circuit, here on Sunday, saw four races each in the X-30 Round 3 and Round 4 that were held together in a three-day weekend from Friday.

    Ruhaan Alva, all of 13 years, won all the four races, with ease and grace as he maintained comfortable margins of lead in the Junior category while Ishaan, the younger of Madesh brothers, from Bengaluru continued his unbeaten run winning all the four races in the Cadet category.

    The 10-year old Vidyashilp Academy student suffered a rare loss yesterday to Shriya Lohia of Pune but his dominance on the track goes hand in hand with the playful nature of a tiny-tot, all intact.

    Race 1 of all the three categories of Round 4 were held on Saturday. Sunday began with the Junior class and Ruhaan Alva took a commanding lead and was so relaxed with a comfortable lead that Arjun Nair and Ryan Mohammed were left fighting for the second place.

    And Ruhaan, lost the sight of the fastest lap as he won by over four seconds but Arjun pipped Ryan for the second with Ryan forced to be content with the fastest lap.

    Later in both the races, Ruhaan showed his mastery and won the races with the fastest lap to boot. Arjun Nair came second pushing MR Rishon to third in Race 3 while Rishon took the second spot edging out Arjun in Race 4.

    Ishaan Madesh took to the track after the Junior race and he continued to win all the three races in the Cadet class. After a rare loss yesterday, he did well to control the proceedings and won Race1 beating Pune’s Sai Shiva while Raiden Samervel of Mumbai came third, far behind the top two.

    However, it was the lone girl in the class, Shriya Lohia, who caught the eye, with her racing. She gave a tough fight to Ishaan in both Race 3 and 4 and also managed to bag the fastest laps. After the end of Round 4, Ishaan has 153 points and the second-place Shriya Lohia has 107. With four races and 40 points on offer in the last round, Ishaan virtually sealed the title for 2019 in the Cadet Class.

    Today INDIAinF1 features the photograph of the Baby of the Round 4 Arafath Sheikh, the youngest driver on the grid, who displayed amazing guts to overtake three of his more popular and experienced mates before finishing sixth in Cadet Class Race 3. At just 7 years, the young karter has a bright future if groomed well and nurtured properly.

    Bengaluru, 13 July 2019: Lanky Shriya Lohia is a joy to watch. When she is running on to the track, or just tickling the boys on the track, the 11-year-old from Pune, shocked the boys in the X-30 Cadet Class winning Race 3 in the JK Tyre National Karting Championship at the Meco Kartopia, near Bagaluru here on Saturday.

    The  Class VI student of Indira National School took to karting like a duck to water. Within a short period, she has made amazing strides and her win today, in only the third round of the season, is a vibrant boost to the `Women in Motorsport’ campaign being taken up by all motorsports bodies. The youngster who suffered an unfortunate incident in the morning, showed her grit and perseverance to bounce back with vigour and stopped the juggernaut of Ishaan Madesh to win the third race in a time of 11min 13.233secs and defended well to keep at bay a marauding Pune mate Sai Siva, who had to settle for a third place.

    “I am very happy to win the race. It is really nice to beat the boys. I want to win more,” said the upcoming talent, who enjoys her racing to the core.

    Her father, who spotted her love for karting after she fell in love with the track at Vadodara run by another Women in Motorsport ambassador Mira Erda. And there was no turning back. Due to lack of proper tracks in her home town, her parents make visits to Bengaluru and Hyderabad to provide her some practice time. She trains at Meco Motorsports. Her father Ritesh Lohia, an adventure sport lover himself, has provided all the support and if groomed properly, the youngster has the potential to shine in the man’s world.

    Young Shreya Lohia, originally hailing from Himachal, announced her arrival winning the FMSCI award in the Outstanding Women in Motorsports category last year.

    “At such a young age Shriya believes in her infinite potential. Going forward her only limitations may be, if any, which she may set upon herself. We are already in overdrive with our `Women in Motorsport’ programme, its such talent which keeps us motivated with their outstanding performances. We wish her good luck in all her forthcoming endeavors,” said Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motorsports, JK Tyre.

    Bengaluru, 13 July 2019: Chennai’s Nirmal Umashanker made a comeback with a win in Race 4 while young Ruhaan Alva notched up a double in the Junior Class and Ishaan Madesh took a victory in the Cadet Class on the Day 2 of the Round 3 JK Tyre National Karting Championship at the Meco Kartopia circuit, near here on Saturday.

    Nirmal recovered from a forgettable Race 2 and returned to his winning ways taking a narrow win against Bala Prasath in Race 3 of the X-30 Senior Class and went on to beat him again in Race 4.

    However, the highlight of the day is the sensational win by young Shriya Lohia, who stunned the boys to notch her maiden win in the Cadet Class of the National Championship. She won the race 4 beating Sai Siva Makesh Sankaran while championship leader Ishaan Madesh, who suffered a rare loss, finished third. Shriya is second on the championship table behind Ishaan.

    Nirmal was shunted out of the race in the fifth corner of the very first lap by Bengaluru karter Paul Francis and he suffered his first loss of the season with no points to show. However, he bounced back in his typical style and recorded a win in the next race.

    Bala Prasath of Coimbatore who made the best use of the situation and defeated Bengaluru’s Aditya Swaminathan by a huge margin to take the victory in Race 2. Debarun Banerjee of Delhi came third in Race 2 and could only manage only fourth despite the fastest lap in Race 3 but that helped him garner some important points. Abhirath Shetty, also from the Garden City, finished second in the third race.

    In the X-30 Junior Category, Bengaluru karter Ruhaan Alva won a grand double winning both the races on the day to make up for his loss on Friday. He beat compatriot MR Rishon with a comfortable margin in both the Races. Yesterday’s winner Arjun Nair had to be content with a third place in both Race 3 and Race 4. Ruhaan also clocked the fastest laps in both the races.

    In the X-30 Cadet Class, younger of the Madesh brothers, Ishaan clocked 10min 32.461sec for the 10 laps of the 1.2km Meco Kartopia track to win Race 3. Raiden Samervel of Mumbai kept Pune’s racing girl Shriya Lohia in third place. Ishaan also clocked the fastest lap.

    Races in Round 4 started on Saturday afternoon beginning with a major upset as Nirmal Umashanker suffered a loss once again. It is Bengaluru boy Abhirath Shetty who won the race followed by Debarun Banerjee in second and Bala Prasath in third.

    In Race 1 of the Cadet Class, Ishaan Madesh, restored a bit of pride for himself as he outclassed Shriya Lohia to win the first race of Round 4 which is being simultaneously held along with Round 3 during the same weekend. Raiden Samervel of Mumbai, who came third, also clocked the best lap.

    Bengaluru, 12 July 2019: Nirmal Umashanker of Chennai, who is leading the Championship table, notched up another comfortable win in the first race as the Round 3 of the X30 JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship 2019 began at the Meco Kartopia on the outskirts of Bengaluru here on Friday.

    In a facile win, Nirmal Umashanker clocked 15 minutes, 44.209 seconds over 15 laps to beat Bala Prasath of Coimbatore who was way behind by over 10 seconds while MR Rishon finished third. Nirmal also recorded the fastest lap in his 6th lap clocking 55.680. Debarun Banerjee, who was second on the championship table, before Round 3 began, could not even complete even one lap.

    In the Junior Class, Arjun S Nair of Bengaluru timed 11:24.498 to win Race 1 defeating MR Rishon in a tough battle which saw all the top-3 racers fight till the end. Ruhaan Alva who clocked the best lap in 55.344 had to be content with the third place but garnered important championship points. Before the race, Ruhaan was leading the overall championship table. With 2 races to be run during the weekend, Arjun looks to keep his momentum and jump to the top slot but Ruhaan is ready to give a tough fight to keep his top standing.

    In the Second race of the Junior Class, Shravanthika Lakshmi S of Coimbatore started on pole in the reverse grid and the only girl in this class, a 10th standard student, defended well against some of the national champion boys, but ultimately finished fifth. MR Rishon won the race while Ruhaan Alva finished second and Rohan Madesh came third. All the three are from Bengaluru and Ruhaan put in the fastest lap.

    In the Cadet Class, Ishaan Madesh of Bengaluru, the championship leader began Round 3 with a bang, notching up one more win. He timed 10:30.420 for the 10 laps around the Meco Kartopia circuit keeping at bay the girl from Pune, Shriya Lohia, who was within a second but had to settle for a second in 10:31.283. Raiden Samervel from Mumbai took the third place. Ishaan also got the fastest lap at 1min 2.172sec.

  • Shahan, Avalakki continue to dominate: JK Tyre Karting Nationals

    Bengaluru, 8 July 2019: Agra’s Shahan Ali Mohsin and Bengaluru’s Mihir Suman Avalakki continued their good form to hold on to the lead after Round 2 of the Rotax Class of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship 2019 at the Meco Kartopia on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

    Shahan (MSport) looked at ease over the weekend as he won race 1 and finished second in another to notch up 86 points and take his total tally to 175 points in the Senior Max Category.

    Manav Sharma of Faridabad, who was outperformed by Shahan in the opening round, however, accumulated two more points than him by finishing second in the pre-final and winning the final this time around. The Peregrine Racing driver has a total of 173 points now and is sitting on the second place.

    MSports’ Bala Prasanth finished fifth in both the races to collect 78 points and take the third position with 160 points.

    In the Junior Max Category, it was a clean sweep for Birel Art as they took all the podium places, led by another local lad Mihir. He did not have the best of starts to the round, finishing only fourth in the opening race.

    But he came back to clinch the second place in the final race to pocket 83 points and take his total tally to 172 points. He is tied on points with his team-mate Rishon after two rounds, who won both races of the day to amass 89 points. Ruhaan Alva is on the third spot as he posted two third place-finishes to collect 82 points to take his total tally to 165 points.

    In the Micro Max Category, it was Peregrine Racing’s Ishaan Madhesh who came up with another powerful performance and won both the races to extend his tally to 178 points. His team-mate Jagrat Detroja is on the second spot with 166 points while Anshul Sai Shivkumar is in the third place with 157 points.

    Bengaluru, 16 June 2019: Chennai’s Nirmal Umashankar came up with another power-packed performance to consolidate his lead in the X-30 class of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship at the Meco Kartopia near Bengaluru on Sunday.

    Nirmal, an accomplished driver in the Euro JK category of JKNRC, was unstoppable in the Senior Category and won all four races during the day to collect a total of 40 points to maintain his vice-like grip at the top of the leaderboard with 76 points after two rounds. Debarun Banerjee of Delhi, who started the round behind Nirmal, began with two, second-place finishes. But he could not better that show and finished third and fourth respectively in the next two races to drift away. He is currently on 49 points after two rounds.

    Agra’s Shahan Ali Mohsin, who started 7th on the leaderboard, collected 22 points, thanks to his three third-place finishes catapulting to the third spot with a total of 32 points.

    In the Junior Category, it was Bangalore’s Ruhaan Alva who made the most of the round, winning three races to collect a total of 34 points to climb up the charts with a total of 57 points. His city-mate Arjun S Nair won one race and posted two, second-place finishes to log in 27 points and maintain his second spot with a total of 51 points. Shahan Ali, just like in the Senior Category, covered good ground to go to the third position (38 points), courtesy of two second and two third-place finishes. However, Round 1 leader Mihir Suman Avalakki did not have the best of the days and could collect only 23 points to slide down to 4th position.

    In the cadet category, Bangalore’s Ishaan Mahesh collected a perfect 40 to accumulate a total of 77 pointsto hold on to his lead. Young Shriya Lohia of Pune is in the distant second with a total of 52 points, while Sai Shiva Makesh Shankara is in the third spot with 45 points.

    Arafath Sheikh from Pune, the youngest driver on the grid also proved his mettle as he managed to collect 12 points in the cadet category.

    Bengaluru, 9 June 2019: Agra’s Shahan Ali Mohsin and Bengaluru’s Mihir Avalakki stole the limelight in Round 1 of the Rotax Class of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship at the Meco Kartopia here on Sunday.

    Shahan of MSport proved to be the star of the day in the Senior Max category, winning both his races (the pre-final and final) of the day to accumulate a total of 89 points to surge into the lead.

    Manav Sharma of Faridabad and Coimbatore’s Bala Prasath, both regulars in the LGB Formula 4 category of the JKNRC, took the second and third spot respectively.

    Peregrine Racing’s Manav finished second in both races of the day and collected 85 points while Bala of MSport finished third in his two outings to end the day with a total of 82 points.

    Local boy Mihir, who starred in the opening round of the X-30 class earlier this month, sizzled again to go atop the leader board in the Junior Max category.

    Mihir, racing for Birel Art, finished on top in both the races and picked up 89 points. He is being trailed by his team-mate Rushon, who has 83 points.

    Another Birel Art racer and Bengaluru’s own Ruhaan Alva ended the day on the third spot. He finished second in the opening race and third in the last to register 83 points and tie with Rushon but had to be content with the third spot for finishing behind his team-mate in the final race.

    In the Micro Max category, it was the young Ishaan Madhesh of Peregrine Racing who emerged on top with two wins and a total of 89 points in his kitty. Trailing in the second spot is Ranveer Singh of Birel Art with 85 points while Jagrat Detroja of Peregrine Racing is third with 82 points.

    Bengaluru, 26 May 2019: Chennai’s Nirmal Umashankar and Bengaluru’s Mihir Suman Avalakki emerged as the heroes of Round 1 of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Chamionship 2019, X-30 class, at the Meco Kartopia here on Sunday.

    Nirmal, a regular in the Euro JK category of JKNRC, proved to be the man with nerves of steel as he strolled into the lead in the Senior category. He finished third in the opening race of the day but won the next three to accumulate a total of 36 points.

    Delhi’s Debarun Banerjee surged to the second spot by picking up 24 points; thanks to his two second-place finishes in the last two races of the round. Another local boy M R Rishon is on their tail with 23 points with two third places and one second-place finish.

    In the Junior category, Mihir did not have the best of the starts, finishing sixth in the opening race. However, he won the next three races to register a total of 33 points to go atop the leaderboard. With three podium finishes and 24 points in his kitty, Mihir’s city-mate Arjun S Nair ended the round in the second spot.

    Another local boy and one of the favourites of the championship, Ruhaan Alva, is on the third spot with 23 points. He started the round on a glorious note winning the opening race and finishing second in the next race. It looked like it was going to be his day but a DNF in the third race cost him. He recovered well in the final race finishing third, to be pushed down to the third place.

    In the Cadet category, Ishaan Madesh from Bengaluru took the first spot with three wins and one second-place finish with 37 points. Trailing on the second spot is Bengaluru’s Saathvik Raju (30 points) and 9-year-old Shriya Lohia (25 points) of Pune.

  • Shahan raring to go as JK Tyre National Karting Championship begins in Bengaluru

    Bengaluru, 24 May 2019: Young Shahan Ali Mohsin is raring to go as the X-30 class of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship gets under way here at the Meco Kartopia on Saturday.

    As many as 30 racers from across the country will be in action over the weekend in three different categories (Cadet, Junior and Senior) as the sports gets a new fillip at the grassroots level.

    Agra’s Shahan Ali, holder of multiple national karting championships and former Asia Max Karting champion, heads the star cast, beginning as a strong favourite in the Senior category.

    It will, however, not be a cakewalk for him as the Chennai duo of Nirmal Umashankar and Raghul Rangasamy are also in the fray. Nirmal and Raghul have already made a mark in the higher Euro JK & LGB-4 category of the JKNRC respectively and will bring all their experience into play in this opening round.

    It will be a three-way battle in the Junior category too, with Shahan featuring in this pack too, and the Bengaluru pair of Rohaan Madesh and Ruhaan Alva. All of them are champions in their own right and have the ability to come up with brilliant performances. Coimbatore’s Shravantika Lakshmi will also be another racer in this category to watch out for. The 14-year-old from Coimbatore will hope to use the opportunity to the optimum and give the boys a run for their money.

    “I am really happy to see so many top young racers lining up for this championship. The younger lot has to go through the rigours on go-karts to become top racers,”  Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre, said.

    In the Cadet category, all eyes would be on the fine young talent from Pune: Shriya Lohia. The 9-year-old has already been lauded by FMSCI in their Annual Awards as an Outstanding Woman in Indian Motorsport. She will look to live up to the expectations and will pose a tough fight to local boy Ishaan Madesh, who will start as the favourite in this category.

    The first and the second round will be held in Bengaluru while the third and the fourth will take place in Hyderabad before returning to Meco Kartopia for the final round.
