Portimao (Portugal), 11 Nov 2017: Ruhaan Alva, the 11-year old schoolboy from Bengaluru and representing the Birel Art India team, marked his debut in the World Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals here on Saturday with a creditable 12th place finish in the Micro Max category out of 34 starters, only to be disqualified on a technicality.

Ruhaan, supported by Play Factory and Sona Miller, was disqualified for being underweight by a mere 100 grams during the mandatory post-race weigh-in. As per regulations, the kart along with the driver in full racing gear, including the helmet, should weigh 110 Kgs, but Ruhaan tipped the scales at 109.9 Kgs.

“We are absolutely shattered, but there is nothing we can do about it. Ruhaan had put in so much effort going into the World Finals and we had come to Portugal with a lot of hopes. So, an extremely disappointing finish to the week though Ruhaan

The Grand Finals saw 360 karters from 59 countries competing in various age-group categories, and Ruhaan came through a week-long competition that saw four rounds of free practice, three qualifying heats, the Pre-Final and the Final with a consistent performance which won him much high acclaim.

Though Ruhaan finished just outside the top-10 group, he improved with each outing and clocked his best lap of one minute, 07.992 seconds around the 1.5 Kms long circuit in the 10-lap Final that was won by France’s Louis Iglesias.

Ruhaan opened the week with a best lap of 01:11.295 in the first of the practice sessions. As he grew in confidence and learnt the track, his times dropped. He qualified 10th for the Pre-Final and 13th for the Final.

“It was a great learning experience for me, competing against the best in the World. I thought I could have done much better, but am happy that I could finish 12th in a field of 36 in my category that was extremely competitive. Of course, it was very disappointing to get disqualified for being underweight,” said Ruhaan who was punching above his weight considering that many of his competitors had more track time.

Ruhaan thus completed an otherwise excellent season as he finished third overall in his category in the Italian Easykart Championship and second in the FMSCI Indian National championship.

Bengaluru : Aaroh Ravindra from Rayo Racing, clinched his maiden National Karting Championship, with a 2nd place finish in Round 5 of the Meco FMSCI National Rotax Karting Championship.

The Mumbai youngster has consistently dominated the championship ever since his victory in round 1 at Hyderabad. He completed a hat-trick of victories at the end of Round 3 and already had a commanding lead of 27 points in the National Championship by then.

Aaroh qualified 2nd as the weekend began, after Nirmal USB of M Sport clinched pole position with a lap time of 54.694, a mere 2 hundredths of a second ahead of Aaroh. Manav Sharma was third. Heat 1 saw Nirmal lead from pole & win the heat, while Aaroh won the 2nd heat, ahead of Nirmal.

The pre final saw Nirmal from Chennai, once again start from pole & win ahead of Aaroh & Manav. Aaroh’s earned enough points in the pre final, to be practically assured of the title, irrespective of the outcome of the final. However, Aaroh was not content with merely finishing.

he final saw Nirmal pulling away as soon as the green flag dropped, while Aaroh fell to third. He regained second, coming out of corner 2 but lost ground immediately to Akash. Soon, it was Rayo Racing 2nd & 3rd as both Aaroh & Aanjan overtook Akash on lap 3. Mid-way through the race, Nirmal picked a puncture which promoted the Rayo Racing duo into 1st & 2nd. Aanjan being quicker, soon passed Aaroh for the lead & won a really close race. Aaroh crossed the line a mere 0.3 seconds behind Aanjan, while local lad Akash finished 3rd, ahead of another Bengaluru lad – Danesh Vakharia from Rayo Racing.

Bengaluru’s Chirag Ghorpade from BPC racing won the junior finals ahead of M Sport Racing boys, Shahan Mohsin from Agra & Yash Aradhya from Bengaluru. Bengaluru boys sealed the Micro Max podium as Ruhaan Alva of Birel Art won the finals ahead of Rohaan Madhesh of Peregrine Racing & Rishon MR from Birel Art.

Aaroh’s domination in the Senior National Championship saw him pick the award for most wins in the entire championship. His worst finish of the season being a 2nd place, he won the National Title with a lead of 33 points & earns himself a ticket to represent India in the World Finals at Portugal in November.  Aaroh’s participation in the series came as a result of his sponsorship from Tata Motors, JK Tyres, Rayo Racing & IndiKarting after finishing runner up in the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series last year. The winner of that series – Aanjan Patodia, finished 3rd overall behind Nirmal USB in spite of not finishing a couple of races. He tied on points with Rayo Racing Teammate – Danesh Vakharia.

Yash Aradhya of M Sport, with 2 victories in the season, won the junior title by 9 points from Chirag Ghorpade & Shahan Mohsin. Arjun Rajiv won the Micro title by 8 points, ahead of Ruhaan Alva & Rishon MR.

“It was an amazing start to the year, with a hat trick of victories. A double runner-up finish in the last 2 rounds was not bad either. It has been hard work by everyone involved & I really want to thank Steve for his efforts, as well as all our sponsors & my family for their support” said an ecstatic Aaroh after the prize distribution ceremony.

He continued, “I have had very limited track time over the last 2 years due to the lack of a budget. The World Finals are going to be tough competing against the 72 best drivers from around the world, but I will be working hard over the next few weeks to prepare in the best possible way.”

As reported earlier, Aaroh Ravindra, Yash Aradhya and Ruhaan Alva, will represent India, in the World Rotax Finals in Portimao, Portugal from 5th to 11th November, as the champions from over 50 countries will vie for the title of World Rotax Champion 2017. Over 300 competitors will race at this prestigious World Finals.

Rabindra, Ghorpade, Rajiv shine in National Karting Championship

Hyderabad, 17 July 2017: Aaroh Rabindraand of Mumbai and Bengaluru school student Chirag Ghorpade caught the limelight along with Arjun Rajivin the second round of the FMSCI National Rotax Karting Championship, here on Monday.

All three fought back from P2 or P3 to emerge victorious in their respective final races in what proved to be an action-packed and closely fought weekend.
In the Senior Max, Manav Sharma of Faridabad (BPC Racing) dominated the qualifiers and pre-finals but couldn’t hold on to his advantage in the day’s marquee race.
He was pipped to the post by Aaroh Rabindra (Rayo Racing), who started from P2 but still managed a handsome 3.586-second margin victory in the 20-lap race.
The Junior Max final was won by Chirag Ghorpade (BPC) in a gripping race but young Tijil Rao almost grabbed all the attention in this category.
Tijil took part in the races despite being born with club feet, which means he was born with both his legs turned inwards. He underwent four corrective surgeries but his deformity is yet to be completely corrected.
Yash Aradhya and Shahan Ali Mohsin (both of MSport) and Chirag were engaged in a nail-biting tussle. Sai Satish began on pole but he was quickly overtaken by Arjun Syam.
After a few laps, Chirag passed him and held on to the lead until the 15th lap; at that stage, Aradhya overtook him but on the final lap he made a crucial mistake, allowing Aradhya to reclaim the lead.
In the Micro Max, all the podium places were claimed by Bengaluru lads. Arjun Rajiv got the better of Ruhaan Alva, who began on pole,

  • Nayan, Yash, Arjun win Round 4: JK Tyre National karting

Kolhapur, 21 August 2016: On a rain-hit Sunday, championship favourite Ricky Donison suffered a double blow that saw him surrender his leadership position after the fourth and penultimate round of the 13th JK Tyre FMSCI National Rotax Max Championship here at the Mohite Racing Academy.

Donison of BPC Racing, who had won all three earlier rounds, couldn’t come to terms with the wet and slippery conditions on the track and lost his edge in the Senior Max category. He zipped into the parcferme area in the scrutiny bay as he felt that he had a problem with his kart.

He came back a few minutes later to rejoin the race but by then the race organisers had removed his transponder, deeming him DNF (did not finish) on technical grounds. It meant that he had to be content with 38 points in the final that saw him slip to the second position with 324 overall points.

Chennai’s Vishnu Prasad jumped into the lead in the battle for the championship by finishing third in the pre-final and fourth in the final on an action-packed Sunday. He has a nominal 4-point lead now with 328 points in his bag, going into the final round next month.

The round itself was won by Mumbai’s Nayan Chatterjee (Meco Racing) in an exciting race.  Starting from the sixth place, he drove aggressively to come into contention in the opening lap itself. By the fifth, he was in the lead and didn’t give any other driver the opportunity to catch him.

For a brief while, Kolhapur fans had something to cheer as Dhruv Mohite grabbed the lead. But he couldn’t handle the heat generated by Nayan and the rest and slowly fell behind and eventually pulled out in the 12th lap. But the crowds still had reason to celebrate as another local boy Chittesh Mandody surprised all by coming from behind to finish second. Akash Gowda of Meco finished a commendable third, having started from the pit lane.

Interestingly, the Junior Max and Micro Max categories too saw the current leaders, Manav Sharma and Shahan Ali, suffer defeats but that didn’t affect their positions on the championship table.

In Junior Max, Manav of Peregrine Racing only managed to finish sixth after struggling with technical problems with his kart all through the weekend. But that was enough to keep him ahead of the pack with 334 points.

Yash Aradhya of Meco won the round to climb one place up to second position with 328 points.

Chirag Ghorpade of BPC had a great weekend, winning the two heats on Saturday and the pre-final in the morning. But he fell behind in the race that mattered and finished second. He is now in the fourth place in the championship race with 317 points.

In Micro Max, Shahan Ali looked unbeatable till the rains came down. The 12-year-old from Agra preferred not to take any undue risk and couldn’t do anything as Arjun Nair (Meco Racing) sneaked past him in the opening lap itself.

Shahan waited for Arjun to make a mistake but that didn’t happen; he made a late charge, even clocking the quickest timing in the last and 15th lap but Arjun held on to his nerve and warded him off. Bangalore’s Arjun is now just 28 points behind the leader in the championship race.

  • Donison, Manav and Shahan start firm favourites

Kohlapur, 18 August 2016: High octane racing will return to Kolhapur after a year’s gap, with the fourth and penultimate round of the 13th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Max Karting Championship scheduled to take place at the state of the art Mohite Racing Academy over the August 20-21 weekend.

The round promises an exciting fare with all eyes set on Ricky Donison of BPC Racing who has been in supreme form throughout the season. Bengaluru’s Donision with a tally of 252 points is leading the charts, and will aim for an encore, that not only will maintain his 100% record this season but also consolidate his position at the top. However, it will not be an easy run out there for Donison, as he will be up against a strong challenge from Chennai’S Vishnu Prasad of Meco Racing (247 points) and local lad Dhruv Mohite of Mohite Racing (243). Both the drivers will be go out all guns blazing and aim to narrow the gap at the top. Dhruv will perhaps fancy his chances a little more as he will literally be racing in his backyard, being a Kolhapur racer and also the owner of the Mohite Racing Academy track.

JK Motorsport’s president Sanjay Sharma believes that this round may well be the most critical one for the championship. “All the racers know that a big prize awaits them if they win the national championship. They will be rubbing shoulders with 360 of the finest racers from 50 nations,” he said.

In the Junior Max (for kids between 13 and 16) and Micro Max categories (for kids between 7 and 12), Manav Sharma and Shahan Ali are in much more comfortable positions, with 9-point and 16-point leads. Manav of BPC is ahead with 257 points, having won the first round and taking the fourth and second positions in subsequent rounds. But Meco’s triumvirate of Nirmal Umashankar (248 points), Yash Aradhya (240) and Paul Francis (231) will surely come up with a joint strategy to unseat him from the leader’s position.

Twelve-year-old Shahan, who suffered some bad luck in the Rotax Euro finals over the last weekend and finished 29th, has reason to believe that life will be much easier back home: he might even believe that the Micro Max championship is almost in his pocket. He has been virtually untouchable in the earlier three races and is sitting pretty on 262 points. Ruhaan Alva (246) of Perigrine, Arun Nair (241) of Meco and Arjun R (239) of Birel Art can only hope to fight for the second and third positions.

The action will begin at the Mohite Academy on Saturday with practice rounds in the morning. The four races in each of the categories will take place over the weekend, the first two eachon Saturday and the last two each on Sunday, with drivers from across the country ready to burn rubber.

Jehan Challenges for podium in Silverstone

Silverstone (UK), 18 May 2016: Sahara Force India Academy Racer – Jehan Daruvala, completed Round 2 of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC at the famed Silverstone F1 Circuit in the UK, with 2 strong finishes just outside the podium. He managed a 5th & 4th place at the same circuit, where he came out unscathed after a horrific crash last year.

Jehan managed to qualify 6th out of the 24 racers in Qualifying session 1, He was immediately behind Championship leader – Dorian Boccolacci of France. Belgian, Max Defourny bagged pole position ahead of Britain’s Lando Norris.

In Qualifying session 2, Jehan went one higher to qualify 5th on the grid, while Lando Norris bagged pole ahead of fellow Brit – Will Palmer.

“After analysing all the data with the team, I know that I am right up there through the entire lap, I need to work on my speed through the last two corners, because I am losing most of my time just there.” reflected Jehan after Qualifying.

Race 1 saw Jehan get a decent start but he soon lost two positions. In two laps he made up one position by overtaking Alex Gill on the inside.

A few laps later Jehan made a fantastic and aggressive move down the inside of Keeffe. Keeffe slammed the door shut & the two made contact. Keeffe had to retire while Jehan suffered front wing damage & managed to eventually finish the race in fifth place. Max Defourny won the race ahead of Boccolacci, while Will Palmer finished 3rd.

Jehan made a good start in Race 2 & held his fifth place. Lando Norris ran away at the front & built up a lead of 3 car lengths. On lap three Jehan was all over the rear of Race 1 winner – Max Defourny. Jehan then made the most unbelievable move on the outside of Defourny into a sharp, downhill left hander. In what was certainly the overtaking move of the race, Jehan moved into fourth.

Jehan soon chased down Boccolacci & tried his best, but could not make a move. As his tyres started to go off, he decided to back off & protect his 4th position. Norris continued his lead extension at the front to win ahead of Palmer, Boccolacci & Jehan.

“I need to find more time on brand new tyres in qualifying. My race pace has been decent but I have been losing out in qualifying this weekend. It’s something I will definitely be working on. I enjoyed the battle with Defourny, but then I pushed too hard, too soon, which meant that my tyres lost grip a little sooner than I would have liked. I had no choice but to give up on fighting for third & instead had to protect my fourth place” said Jehan after Race 2.

Jehan’s next race will be at the world famous Monaco Street Circuit as part of the support Race to Formula 1 on 28th & 29th May as part of the Formula Renault Eurocup.
