Privateer Adnaan Ahamed claims overall honours; Faseela wins Ladies class

Puttur (Karnataka), 22 May 2022: On a dramatic day of slush and action, it was a glorious day for the unsung riders as local hero Adnaan Ahamed hoisted the flag high for privateers by clinching a well-deserved Overall victory at Rally de Mangaluru, the second round of the MRF MoGrip fmsci National Rally Championship 2W 2022 here on Sunday. Hero MotoSports’ Yuva Kumar and Sathyaraj Arumugam took the second and third place behind Ahmed, in that order.

All the ten bikes of Petronas TVS Racing team did not take the start for Round 2 on Sunday morning. Though issues of fuel pipe during the scrutiny are said to have led to the withdrawal of TVS factory team riders, an official version is awaited.

Sarath Mohan of Malappuram won the Group A Super Bike Expert class with a commanding lead once again to lead the championship table with two victories beating his state-mate Francis Sinan, who had to play second fiddle once again while Asad Khan of Chikkamagaluru came third ahead of another good performance by young lady rider Tanika Shanbagh, who stood overall 11th.

In the Super Sport 130cc class, Anoop Manjappa stepped up gear in wet conditions and pushed aside the challenge from Round 1 winner, Chalass Bose of Kottayam who was fastest in three stages but the lost ground in SS6. Chalass began with a bang clocking the best time in SS1, as the two Honda Stunners played cat-and-mouse race winning a stage each but Anoop took a decisive lead in SS6 and never looked back. Sudarshan of Chikkamagalur came third astride a Yamaha Gladiator.

Pinkesh Thakkar, who won the Scooter class on Sunday in Puttur.

In Super Sport 165cc Class, defending champion Ajin Abraham of Kottayam, who missed the first round due to professional obligations took a comfortable win with a lead of over one and a half minute over Chikkamagaluru’s Francis PV, who won the first round. Sasi Kumar from Coimbatore, also on a Hero Impulse, finished third.

VS Naresh from Bengaluru put his Himalayan on the top winning the Royal Enfield class ahead of Arun Joy from Kochi and Abhijeet Sarkar of Bengaluru.

Fazeela from Ernakulam, found the moment ideal to display her talent and skills to claim the Ladies Class with Mangaluru’s Apoorva taking the second spot once again. The 2021 Sprint champion, Deeksha Srivastava, despite losing ground in one of the stages, completed her maiden podium in the Rally Nationals.

Hansraj Saikia from Guwahati, who came all the way from Guwahati provided the North-East flavour to the Nationals winning the Super Sport 400cc Group B class with ease and grace despite a road penalty as plenty of lead over Amogh Nag of Bengaluru. Astride a KTM Duke, Saikia, was looking to gain the much-needed experience, but the victory was a sweet bonus. Vinit Sharma of Indore also made it to the podium.

And it was also a day to celebrate for experienced Pinkesh Thakkar, who put Aprilia on a winning pedestal. With an entry as Aprilia JB Racing, he won the class astride his SR150 while Bengaluru’s Goutham N took second and Muzaffar Ali of Pune came third.

Rugved Barguje wins a double, claims ‘Rider of the Day’ award

Pune, 7 May 2022: Talented youngster Rugved Barguje of Petronas TVS Racing was in flowing form as he conquered both the motos to win the ‘Rider of Day’ trophy in the second round of the MRF MoGrip fmsci National Supercross Championship 2022 here on Saturday.

In a huge achievement, popular privateer Arun D of Hassan achieved a double astride an Impulse. He won the prestigious Indian Experts class beating celebrated factory rider and former National champion Nataraj R and his teammate Sachin D of TVS Racing took third place. He won the Private Experts class too beating Shailesh Kumar and Yogesh P came third. All the riders were on Impulse bikes.

Promoted by GodSpeed Racing with TVS Racing, Servo, Sidvin and FXR as sponsors, the Supercross Nationals are back with a bang in Nashik last Sunday attracting huge crowd after a two-year haitus due to COVID19. Pune too welcomed the popular sport with huge crowds gracing the artificial gallery for vantage spot and watched the riding daredevils in action. The daring feats, stunning jumps and the fast bikes did not disappoint them. The Freestyle Motocross riders and their stunts were a bonus for an evening of entertainment as many turned up with families.

CD Jinan, who dominated the proceedings in the first round, had to play second fiddle to the local hero Rugved Barguje, who took the championship lead in the top Foreign Experts class, (the SX1 Group A upto 500cc bikes) from the Kerala master. Barguje, inherited the biking skills and talent from his father, Dhyaneswar, the senior Barguje, who was popular as Bala in his hey days. He also has brothers who raced bikes but with today’s riding it was Rugved, who hogged all the limelight with a dominating show. He took the hole shot in the first moto and by the end of the first lap, the 22-year old opened up a huge gap of over 20 bike-lengths and never looked back, making the victory look so cool.

In the second moto too, Barguje was ahead into the first corner, a low right, but was boxed in by TK Prajwal, who took the hole shot and CD Jinan, who sneaked into second. Not the one to easily give up, the youngster launched an all out attack from the third position and near the third corner he sensed the chance and launched himself with clever use of the berm and overtook both Prajwal and Jinan, to regain the lead. Thereon, he shrewdly managed his lead, controlling his pace and jumps, and extended the gap for another comfortable win. With a straight back and balanced approach, hitting the whoops with his rear tyre at the same spot, Barguje seems to have gained the extra time managing the ten whoops to his advantage.

Behind him it was the Satara youngster, Ikshaan, son of another former racing star, Shanbhag, who clinched a creditable second place in the second moto. Jinan, had a forgettable week-end as he fell in the second moto and injured his leg. But the rider running 50, puts to shame many youngsters with his fitness mantra. He got up and finished the moto, and only during the podium ceremony one could notice a slight limp. Jinan got a third in the other moto and kept himself at a striking distance in the title race. Watchout for the master blaster in the remaining rounds.

“I am so thrilled. It is definitely a very big feeling to win in the home town. The effort and hard work I put in for the past two months had paid off. Now I got the championship lead and with more rounds to go, my focus is to be consistent and I will take it round by round,” said a beaming Rugved Barguje to INDIAinF1 from Pune.

Coimbatore’s Manikandan K won the SX2 ahead of Bhumik Lalwani of Mount Abu and first round winner Ajay Srinivas of Bengaluru. Shillong’s rising star Banteilang Jerwa of TVS Racing, astride a RTR 200 won the Novice class again to take the championship lead. Teammate Sachin D came second ahead of Arun T. Jinendra Sangave of Kolhapur pocketed the Locals class while Shlok Ghorpade won the Junior SX1. Another home-town talent Akshat Hupale bagged the Junior SX2 and is leading the championship after two rounds.

Abdul Tanveer crowned overall National Champion 2021: 2w Rally

TVS Racing wins four top glamorous classes of the 2021 National Rally Championship for two-wheelers in a dominant fashion at the final round in Nashik. For many years now, the Premier Racing Team in the country has been winning the Overall Championship and National titles in multiple categories. Defending champions Samuel Jacob and Aishwarya Pissay won the National titles in their respective classes with a round to spare while Pavan BK too won the Super Sport 165cc Group B with a huge margin in the penultimate round itself. However, it is World Cupper Miss Pissay, who dominated the season like no other, winning 150 out of 150 points.

Abdul Wahid Tanveer wins 2w National Rally Championship

Abdul Tanveer, the Overall Champion, for 2021.

Nashik, 19 Dec. 2021: Mysore’s Abdul Wahid Tanveer of TVS Racing was crowned the National champion in the GodSpeed MRF Mogrip fmsci National Rally Championship 2021 for two-wheelers which concluded with the sixth and final round held here on the picturesque foothills of Sahayadri mountain ranges on Sunday Dec. 19, with a consistent show finishing all the six rallies.

    Champions All

Abdul Wahid Tanveer, Asad Khan, Ajin Abraham, Pavan BK, Samuel Jacob, Sajeesh Reghunathan, Mohammed Zaheer, Karthik and Aishwarya were the National champions for 2021 in their respective classes from Class 1 for Super Bikes Pro-Expert to Class 8 Ladies category.

Profiles of these 2021 champions will be published soon.

Meanwhile, 2019 World Cup Baja winner, the only world champion in motorsports from India, Aishwarya Pissay, astride a TVS RTR200, continued her winning spree as she made a clean sweep of all the rounds and added one more National title to her glittering career.

The Bengaluru rider who made her rally debut in the last round of 2016 season, decided to do both road racing and rallying from 2017 and promptly won both the Nationals. The 2021 title is her fifth consecutive National championship victory in Ladies Class. For record she has 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 INRC titles and 2021 National Rally Championship title. Apart from these five Nationals she is also the maiden National champion in Road Racing when the ladies class was accorded National status in 2017. She won the inaugural MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship Ladies Class in 2017.

The rider supported by Hyperice and Scott, had a blemishless year and young Tanika Shanbagh was the only rider who put up a semblance of a fight but the Kannadiga from Satara, who was bothered by an injury to her leg. But Tanika bravely put up a fight, and deservedly finished second. She did clock some fast times, especially in the slush and muddy terrain, which vanquished many a rider. The talented rider, is focussed and her race craft and hardwork, with experience will surely take her places as she got her fundamentals right. Taking part in different rounds, 10 ladies entries, speak well for the Women in Motorsports, with Sprint Ladies champion 2021, Deeksha joining for the last round in Nashik. Apoorva B, despite taking part in only three rallies finished third in the championship.

    Consistent Tanveer is champ

Astride a TVS RTR450, Tanveer, who joined TVS Racing in 2014, won only the third and fourth rounds, but finished all the other rounds in second place for valuable points and defeated teammate and 2019 champion Rajendra RE by a comfortable margin of 22 points. Rajendra, who began with a bang winning the opening round in Hampi, appeared to have taken a decisive lead winning Round 2 too, but the treacherous terrain and the slush killed his hope as he logged a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the next two rounds that virtually put paid to his hopes. The victory at the last round here is only a consolation as Tanveer proved that he could ride in any terrain. The old adage, for finishing first, first you have to finish the rally, proved true as Rajendra’s three wins went in vain.

Tanveer, popular as Tanni in the TVS garage, made his international debut in 2017. He took part in the PanAfrica Rally 2018 at Morocco from September 8 to 15 for a creditable overall eighth position on debut. Moreover, he bagged the first place in Enduro Class in one of the stages and went on to do well in Morocco rally next year in 2019 winning the laurels for the country in his class.

TVS brilliance continuesSamuel retains his class

Samuel Jacob, Group B 260cc Class Champioin for 2021

Defending overall champion, Samuel Shajan Jacob won the championship in the Group B 260cc class for the second year in a row, riding an Apache RTR200. The Udupi rider who joined TVS in 2018 has a Masters in Logistics and Supply Management and thus is a thinking rider, aware of his strengths. Though he lost to teammate Tanveer in overall class, he enjoyed a dominant run this season, with five wins in six rounds and excelled with brilliant riding skills and consistent performance, especially in the wet rounds. Just 28, he celebrated his birthday with a deserving win on Dec 4 with a victory in a tricky round.

Karthik keeps up the tempo till end

Karthik Naidu clinched his maiden title, winning in the scooter class with a rally spec TVS Ntorq 125. He won the title by a margin of just 11sec, with the title coming down to the last loop of the rally. Though the Ntorqs dominated, the class he found some thrilling competition which brought alive the championship and kept it open till the end. It is the NTorq which stood him in good stead in all the obstacles he came across.

Abdul Wahid Tanveer wins Overall honours; TVS sweep continues

Mangaluru, 14 Nov 2021: TVS Racing continued to dominate the MRF MoGrip Indian National Racing Championship for two-wheelers as Dakar-prospect Abdul Wahid Tanveer romped home with a stunning overall victory in Round 3 held here on Sunday.

Abdul Tanveer, who made his debut in 2014 for TVS,has been on the rise and the #2 Bengaluru rider clocked 40minutes, 55.728 seconds for the six Special Stages, as he defeated his nearest rival and defending champion Sarath Mohan of Mallapuram by over six seconds. However, Sarath Mohan, a privateer on Husqvarna FE450 won Class 1A with Tanveer taking Class 1 gold astride a TVS Apache RTR. Imran Pasha J, also of TVS Racing came overall third, another 14 seconds behind Mohan, but won Class 4 as well. TVS also made a sweep of the scooter class.

Tanveer, who won his class in his international rally year in Merzouga in 2017 has been preparing for Dakar but COVID19 postponed his dream run. Undaunted, the Mysore rider is pulling all stops to keep his fitness and win the domestic events. Teammate and former champion Nataraj R came second while privateer Gautham Rao R completed the podium pushing out another former champion and TVS giant Rajendra RE.

In the Class IA, Sarath Mohan of Mallapuram, astride a Husqvarna FE 450 beat the Rally of Himalayas winner Aman Prabhakar Pawde on a KTM EXCF 450 while Asad Khan took third on a Suzuki RMX 450Z as all privateers ruled the roost in this top class. Ajion Abraham, Dilip Raj and Prashanth R, all on a Honda CBR Stunner 130cc, won the Class 2 in that order.

Riding a Hero Impulse 150cc, Pavan won Class 3 ahead of Sashi Kumar and Abrar Pasha, all privateers and on similar bikes. Imran Pasha J upset champion Samuel Jacob and Sachin had to be content with a third in Class 4, the TVS Apache RTR category.

Venu Ramesh Kumar, continues to defy age, as the senior most rider once again stood on the second step of the podium. But this time, Sajeesh Reghunathan, also on a KTM Duke 390 beat the Riders’ Representative to take the gold and Sravan Kumar Kuttoor on a KTM ADV 390 claimed the third place.

Mohammed Zaheer won the Bullet Class with another Belgaum rider taking the second also on a Himalayan. Naresh and Devaraj Venkatesh of Tribal Cafe, finished in that order.

TVS Racing once again dominated the Scooter Class and made amends to last round loss of a podium place by sweeping all the top-three places. Syed Asif Ali won the gold while teammates Karthik and Shamim Khan followed him in second and third, all on TVS N Torque. Adnan Ahmed won the non-championship Star of Karnataka award.

  • Jagan Kumar scores imperious win: 2w Racing Nationals

Jagan Kumar scores imperious win: 2w Racing Nationals

Chennai, 21 August 2021: Defending champion Jagan Kumar (TVS Racing) did as he pleased on his super quick Apache RTR 160 bike to win the premium Pro-Stock 165cc Open race in the first round of the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2021 at the MMRT, here on Saturday.

Earlier, Alwin Sundar (AS Motorsports), the English Literature student from Chennai’s Guru Nanak college, and who turns 19 in a week’s time, gave himself an advance birthday gift by winning the Novice (Stock 165cc) race that he started from P5.

Chennai’s Jagan, 31, winner of nine National titles, set such a hot pace after starting from pole position that it virtually destroyed a classy field to finish well ahead of arch-rival and fellow-international Rajiv Sethu (Idemitsu Honda SK69 Racing) who, in turn, held off TVS Racing’s Deepak Ravikumar after a cat-and-mouse battle through the six-lapper.

“The bike was just brilliant today. I really pushed in the early part of the race and, in the end, it was fairly comfortable,” said Jagan who even kept looking behind as he approached the finish line at the end of the race.

In contrast, the pole-sitter in the Novice race run earlier in the day, Allwin Xavier (Sparks Racing), crashed in the last lap when in lead which allowed Alwin Sundar to get a jump and post his maiden win at the National level.

Running third in the last lap, Sundar, racing in just his third season, moved to the front after couple of riders in front, including Xavier, crashed in the final lap. Also benefitting from the incident were Thrissur’s Anfal A (Rockstar Racing) and Teja TVR Namburu (Gusto Racing) from Hyderabad, who finished second and third, respectively.

Another notable winner on the day was 16-year old Kavin Quintal from Chennai in the high-end NSF 250R class of the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup. He had to ward off defending champion 14-year old Sartak Chavan (Pune) who crashed in the fourth lap when hotly challenging for the lead. Quintal finished ahead of Varoon Sadasivam and Geoffrey Reviven Emmanuel, both also from Chennai.

The results (Provisional – all 6 laps unless mentioned):
