From Isle of man to Kari Motor Speedway: Adrien Sellers reminsces
Bengaluru/Leicester, 30 Nov 2021: Royal Enfield is a big bike. Big enough to look like a hero or heroine when riding one. It has its advantages on the roads and is considered the King of Indian roads. A craze with the youth, and more and more girls are riding the ‘Bullets’ now. One look at the Bullet clubs or a leisurely walk on the highways early morning on any Saturday or Sunday, one cannot miss the many thundering dud-duds of these Big Brothers. Whether it is the India Bulls, the IndiaBullRiders and the Bulleteers, or the Bikernis. Whether it is Bengaluru, Chennai, or Pune, one cannot miss the thrill of bullets vrooming past in formations and groups… or alone. All by themselves.
Royal Enfield at the Isle of Man! A nostalgic YouTube!
Royal Enfield is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturing company and the oldest global motorcycle in continuous production. The Indian headquarters is in Chennai where there is also a manufacturing plant. On numerous visits to the MMSC race track from Bengaluru over the years, this writer has encountered umpteen bikers of various makes at the roadside tea shops on the outskirts of Garden City, which hosts the oldest Riders club, the India Bull Riders. But Bullets stand out!
Coming back, Royal Enfield in partnership with JK Tyre has introduced the Continental GT Cup in India in 2021 and the 18 riders will take their machines onto the track at the Kari Motor Speedway once again for the second round this weekend in Coimbatore conducted along with the Formula car races of JK National Racing Championship. Hubbali’s Anish Shetty is leading the table after the first round.
Indian Motorsports website, INDIAinF1.com had the pleasure of interacting today with Adrian Seles of Royal Enfield from Leicester in England along with Vaibhav, who has conducted the selection trials and is looking after the Indian GT races.

Royal Enfield bikes at the Kari Motor Speedway at the JK Tyre National Racing Championship. Excerpts from the interview:
Question: Can you briefly take us through the selection and elimination process for the shortlisted riders?
Vaibhav: We had an overwhelming response for the selection trials and we had actually followed an elimination process to select the top-18 fastest riders. We had a series of trials in Coimbatore for over two days. We had both newcomers who had an experience just on Royal Enfield bikes on the road and those who were already into road racing. But next year we are planning to have two separate sections. One for the Juniors and one for professionals.
Q: How is Continental GT Cup different from other One Make Championships?
Adrian: To make them the absolute best they could be. To allow the riders to ride as best they can.
Vaibhav: In fact, David, in addition to that, if you look at the racing scene for two-wheelers in India, we have the manufacturers who have one-make championships and all have single-cylinder screens. They have motorcycles for 150 to 250 cc, maybe 310 now, but nobody has a one-make championship with the twin-cylinder 650cc era so that also sets us apart.
Q: What Modifications were done to Continental Gt Cup to make it race-ready?
Adrian: Not that many. We just adjusted and tuned it to make it a bit better in the more extreme condition in the track race. Things like optimising springs both front and rear, padding rear sets, changing the exhaust, and tuning the ECU, these things that don’t change the fundamental structure and composition of the motorcycle but at the same time make it the best version of itself that it can be. Obviously going around the track is a very different set of conditions than riding on the road and this stock continental GT is designed to ride on the road. It is designed to take the entire pothole and the speed humps, and dodger on traffic, and so on. Whereas on the track it is a more consistent and reliable surface, your speed is a lot higher, and so on. So, we’ve taken those considerations that we put into a road bike and put it back into the bike for tuning it for track use. Another edition that of course includes is the faring which is a fairly obvious observation but for the visual aspect, we’ve done well also for the rider, allowing them to achieve the speed.
Q: Usually Bullets are heavy, I first learned my riding on a Bullet but they are more into off-roading now. We get lots of news on Bullet through Bullet rider clubs like one we have in Bengaluru and one in Delhi but racing with a bullet is a new thing in India. For the last few years, whether it is a rally championship or sprint or the Bullet class itself. That is here to stay. So maybe you could tell a bit about how bullets raced around the world in different championships.
Adrian: Historically, Royal Enfield has raced in various championships since the company started. We’ve been participating in these sorts of things. In Track racing, we’ve obviously got only one who has been around for a very long time. He made a mark on the racing scene in India. We have winners of various trophies from around the world. The important thing for us in the modern new Royal Enfield days over the past 10-15 years is re-entering those competitions showing the kids over the motorcycles that irrespective of whichever model it is we’ve entered the competitive platform with our team alliance for example. We’ve also now of course run the GT Cup. We also entered flat track racing in the US and in the UK. We’ve had to go out and race our motorcycle in pretty much every geography. Interestingly enough, retro racing as a thing is becoming increasingly popular everywhere. The expanse of and quite frankly scary running a proper sport bike, a big old cylinder sports bike or whatever sports bike, is prohibited to most people and so when you look at our motorcycles, the actual cost of running it is very low, continental is very low, tire-wear is a lot less and so it is a lot easier for people to engage with this super fun activity so that’s where we get a lot of excitement out of it not just that aspect of top tear competition that you’re entering in as well but in making it extremely accessible for people to get into these racing activities.
I was at the EICMA show in Italy where we were talking with some of our French owners and they get out and race regularly, largely unmodified, just here and there but they go out on them all the time. These are the guys that used to formerly go out on the Japanese super sports bike. You feel it’s still necessary. They have way more fun on their GTs than on the more powerful motorcycles because they can get the absolute most out of the bike while still having their proper big-bike experience. Many of the accessible racing around the world is on smaller bikes which is fun of course but after a point, you look for a bigger bike experience and that’s what we can offer.
Q: Tell us a little bit about how the research done on this championship happening in Coimbatore was transferred back onto the road bikes?
Vaibhav: As of now, it’s very nascent, we have only done two rounds. In technical terms, there are meager changes made in the Stock GT like suspension has been made only stiffer, the rubber on the race tyre is soft compound and the exhaust has been changed. The intention was to show that this bike is already so good and capable in its own ways like Adrian said, people are already taking the stock bike to track. Yes, we have made some changes to the bike as we are not doing track days on this bike, we are actually racing with a grid of 18 youngsters riders who are doing an entire championship and competing for points.
Adrian: A lot of the people who were involved with the modifications to the GT Cup bike were tuned in to develop our stock motorcycle whether it’s suspension or electronic, it’s the same crew.
Q: What are the things we expect from the next edition?
- Want to add a new category to the GT Cup to enable more amateur participation, something like the junior and senior category
- We are still working on the same, and we’ll plan to this
- This is the first time we are doing this and very beginning of our story
- One of the reasons we were thinking this as we want to add more grids and categories to give more people an opportunity to race on the GT R650
Q: This year you came up with 18 bikes or more?
We have to have spare bikes to run a grid of 18 bikes but we try and utilise the same 18 bikes for every race so that everybody has an equal blend field. The idea is to minimise the use of the spares purely because all our 18 bikes are being used equally from the open practice of Round 1. Every rider has been allocated one motorcycle that he/she will use for the rest of the championship. But we do have spare bikes
Question: For service, do you have any team?
We have associates that have been chosen by the team who are helping us.
We make sure there is always technical support for all the racers with all the pieces of equipment required, providing them with professional race experience.
David: Thank you for taking time off from your busy schedule. Nice talking to you.

Sir Frank Williams passes away
The FIA has paid tribute to Formula 1 legend Sir Frank Williams who passed away this morning at the age of 79.
Across a six-decade career in motor sport the founder of the William F1 team won nine FIA Formula One World Championship Constructors’ titles and seven Drivers’ titles, scoring 114 grand prix victories and 128 pole positions along the way.
The news of his death was announced this morning in a statement issued by the Williams team.
“It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, Founder and Former Team Principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79,” Williams said in a statement. “After being admitted into hospital on Friday, Sir Frank, passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family.
“Today we pay tribute to our much loved and inspirational figurehead. Frank will be sorely missed. We request that all friends and colleagues respect the Williams family’s wishes for privacy at this time.”
Paying tribute to Sir Frank, FIA President Jean Todt said: “Very sad news. Sir Frank Williams leaves a lasting impression on the history of F1. He was a pioneer, an exceptional personality and an exemplary man. On behalf of the entire FIA Community, our thoughts are with his family, friends and Williams Racing. Rest in peace, my friend.”
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the sport had lost a “much loved and respected member” of the F1 family.
“He was a true giant of our sport that overcame the most difficult of challenges in life and battled every day to win on and off the track,” Domenicali said. “His incredible achievements and personality will be with etched on our sport forever. My thoughts are with all the Williams family and their friends at this sad time.”
Born in the north east of England in 1942, Frank Williams founded Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1966 and competed in Formula 2 and Formula 3 with a number of promising driver, including Piers Courage. In 1969 the ambitious team boss purchased a Brabham BT26A with which Courage finished second in Monaco and at the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.
The following year he launched a brief partnership with Alejandro de Tomaso, running Courage in a Giampaolo Dallara-designed chassis but when Courage was killed in a crash at the Dutch Grand Prix Williams’ relationship with de Tomaso foundered. Williams continued to race in F1 with intermittent success in the following years, running drivers such as Tim Schenken, Brian Redman, Henri Pescarolo, Carlos Pace, Jacky Ickx and Jaques Laffite but by 1976 the team was in financial difficulties and when a partnership with Canadian businessman Walter Wolff resulted in a loss of control, Williams left the organisation.
In early 1977 Frank and a young engineer he had hired named Patrick Head established Williams Grand Prix Engineering. The new team made its F1 debut at the 1977 Spanish Grand Prix, with Patrick Neve driving its single car.
Williams’ first F1 victory came just two years later, at the 1979 British Grand Prix , courtesy of Clay Regazzoni and scored five overall that year. Carrying momentum into the following campaign, Alan Jones brought the team its first Drivers’ title in 1980 while Carlos Reutemann helped the team to its first Constrictors’ Crown.
A second team title arrived in 1981, while Keke Rosberg won the 1982 World Championship. In 1983 the team began a new relationship with Honda which would lead to Constructors’ World Championship success in 1986 and 1987, with Nelson Piquet taking the 1987 Drivers’ title.
Tragedy struck in March 1986 when Williams was severely injured in a road crash near the Paul Ricard circuit and was left tetraplegic. Undaunted, he returned to mastermind Williams’ most successful era.
The Williams-Honda team was dominant in 1986 and 1987 with Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell and after Honda departed for McLaren, a new partnership with Renault was even more successful with the team winning World Championships in the early 1990s with Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost.
There was further tragedy in 1994 when Ayrton Senna was killed at Imola but Williams recovered and continued its winning streak with Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve, both of whom became World Champions in 1996 and 1997 respectively.
While the 1997 title remains Williams’ most recent, it continued to win grands prix throughout the first decade of his century and scored its most recent at the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix,
Williams was awarded a CBE for his services to motor racing in 1987 and was knighted in January 1999.

Pragathi Gowda beats `big boys’ to bag fastest-driver tag
Bengaluru, 22 August 2021: Pragathi Gowda of Bengaluru claimed overall honours bagging the fastest driver tag powering her Volkswagen Polo to a stunning time of 2 min, 22.268 seconds over two-laps of the 1-km United Off-road track in the 2021 Time Attack organised by Chetan Shivram Motorsports, a two-day FMSCI-licensed event that concluded here on Sunday.
Ashwin Reddy, Abhin R Rai and Syed Salman bagged a double each in the professional class on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Moin Pasha, Sahil Khan and Asad Pasha also won their classes in the pro section. The event supported by Eco-Life, Anvitha Estates, DC Motorsports and Unite Motorsports received overwhelming response with 176 entries which were divided into professional and amateur sections. Trophies were provided by 6T9th.com and Starttline Motorsports manned the timing equipment that gave one by thousandth of a second times for every driver.
You can watch the Time Attack on Unite Motorsport YouTube here!
Beating many top male drivers in the 13-car start list of the feature event, the 2nd year MBA student who is just three caps in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), slided the corners and attacked the straights to top the time-sheets in Race 1 to beat Ashwin Reddy to second and Moin Pasha to third place. Pragathi eased off on Day 2 due to the slippery track where rookie Syed Salman, proved his mastery on the slushy terrain to beat Asad Pasha and star driver Dhruva Chandrasekhar who was not in his elements on the day due to technical issues with his car.

Pragathi Gowda, who bagged the Overall honours in the Chetan Shivram Motorsports Time Attack at Unite Off Park in Bengaluru on 21 August 2021. “It’s always a good feeling to improve times and Time Attack provided me the right stage as the terrain is very technical and it helped me sharpen my skills to be ready for the INRC. Beating the big boys is a bonus,” added the Bengalurean, who made pundits take notice with her speed in a rally-prep INRC3 spec, in her debut at Itanagar last December.
Jayanth Samynathan won Race 1 in the Rally Cars class beating Reddy brothers Ashwin and Tarun while in Race 2 on Sunday, Syed Salman took the honours with Ashwin Reddy taking a second again and Asad Pasha completing the podium.
Ruthuparna Vivek, Amrut Shekar and Mohammad Uzair won the Amateur races on Day 1 while Ruthuparna Vevek got a double gold on Day 2 in 1600cc and 2000cc even as Arvind won the 1400cc and Mohammed Shabaz bagged 1100cc class.
Naresh of Bro Racing won the Tuner class with veteran INRC tuner Yusuf of Snap Racing taking second and Amju of Ideal Racing came third.
“Since a lot of newcomers including first-timers are there. We wanted to provide a platform where they would not be fighting with the veterans which is very de-motivating. So we had separate class for modified cars driven by professionals,” explained Chetan Shivram, the Clerk of the Course. Shivram, the 2019 Indian National Rally Champion, is a top motorsports mentor training every month scores of rally drivers to excel and was recently roped in by the INRC Promoters to conduct a Driver school to train over two dozen lady drivers ready for INRC. “I thank Nikhil of Unite Off-track for preparing and providing the beautiful track,” added the man behind the show.
“We conducted the event in a bio-bubble following all the COVID protocols of the government as safety is always a top-priority in motorsports. With virtually no events for drivers to get their seat time, Time Attack is a great op for them to brush up their skills for the National rallies and gain some practice in a competitive environment,” said Sanjeev P Shah, the Chief Steward and Secretary of Karnataka Motor Sports Club (KMSC).

Extreme Sports legend, Pastrana, for Race Of Champions’ 1st World Final on Snow
31 March 2021: Promoters of the annual Race Of Champions (ROC), announced today the addition of American, Travis Pastrana, to the growing list of top-tier drivers participating in ROC’s latest innovation in motorsports competition. The first ROC World Final on Snow & Ice will provide some of the fastest racing in ROC’s history, with the Arctic cold and ever-changing surfaces promising to provide unique challenges to a line-up of some of the world’s best drivers.
To be held at the beginning of 2022 in Pite Havsbad, Sweden, the event will mark Pastrana’s ninth visit to ROC—an annual showdown that for more than thirty years has drawn many of the most successful racers from every corner of global motorsports to contest the individual championship and the team competition, ROC Nations’ Cup. In the event at Stade de France in Paris in 2005, Pastrana made it to the semi-finals in individual competition as he famously climbed through the qualifiers of that event with a broken leg. The best result in the ROC Nation’s Cup event with Team USA is second. For ROC Sweden the 11-time X Games Champion is aiming to win it all.
“Race Of Champions is such a prestigious and unique event. It’s an honor to be able to compete against so many icons and legends from all disciplines of racing. I don’t know who my teammate on Team USA will be yet. It would be nice to team up for example with Nascar Champion Jimmie Johnson again and try to do even better than we did at Wembley Stadium in England! But whoever my teammate is we will aim to win it all,” said Pastrana, just after winning the 100 Acre Wood Rally, ahead of Ken Block, and taking the lead in the 2021 American Rally Association series.
Travis’ list of career firsts is extensive and includes winning the first-ever X Games in California and landing the world’s first double backflip on a motorbike. He has accumulated 17 X Games medals, including 11 gold medals and is 4-times America Rally Champion. Beyond his prowess as an athlete, Pastrana is the co-creator and superstar of the Nitro Circus action sports franchise, Nitro World Games and the upcoming Nitro Rallycross Series. He’s broken more than 60 bones, survived 25 concussions and, in the process, become the world’s most celebrated extreme sports Champions. “I’m not Crazy, just very competitive”, Travis says. For the inaugural ROC World Final on Snow & Ice, Pastrana will race head-to-head against a growing list of legends, champions and rising stars already announced, including 9-time Le Mans winner, Tom Kristensen, and reigning FIA World Rally and Rallycross stars Johan Kristoffersson, Petter Solberg and Oliver Solberg. The event’s promoters expect some of the biggest stars from the Nordic countries to be on hand for the ROC Nations Cup as well as the individual championship.
ROC Nations Cup was introduced in 1999 and quickly became a fixture in every ROC WORLD FINAL since. Held on the first day of competition, this novel team event has created some fierce rivalries and enduring dynasties, including Germany’s dominance from 2007 through 2012 delivered by multiple Formula 1 World Champions and Nations’ Cup team mates, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. “I’m proud that we have created an event that has become so important to drivers,” said ROC co-founder and President, Fredrik Johnsson. “Some great friendships and rivalries have been established here over the years.”“Race Of Champions at Pite Havsbad will be a world-unique event with the only Race Of Champions in the world on snow and ice. It will be very exciting to see one of the world’s best drivers, Travis Pastrana take on the race on the frozen Baltic Sea. It will attract a large audience and be a spectacular event,” says Tobias Lindfors, chairman and owner of Pite Havsbad Group.
The date in early 2022 as well as the ticket sales will be released before the summer. The final driver line-up for ROC Snow & Ice will be announced in the lead up to the event, but Race Of Champions is renowned for attracting superstars from all of the premier leagues in global motorsports including Formula 1, Le Mans, Nascar, IndyCar, World Rally and Rallycross. Over its three decades, the event has been a battleground for European legends like Michael Schumacher, Tom Kristensen, Sebastian Vettel, Sébastien Loeb, Petter Solberg, Mattias Ekström, Colin McRae, David Coulthard, Marcus Grönholm, and Jenson Button; along with other international stars like Nascar champions Jimmie Johnson, Kurt and Kyle Busch, and Jeff Gordon; Ryan Hunter-Reay and Josef Newgarden of IndyCar; Formula E Champion Lucas Di Grassi; and Indy 500 champs Juan-Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves.

The combined heroics of this group of courageous individuals and the collaborative efforts of the local volunteers who come from all sectors of Bahraini society meant that Grosjean emerged with minor burns to his hands.

In 1988, it officially joined the calendar of the Indian National Rally Drivers and Co-drivers’ Championship and later, the Nationals were rechristened as Indian National Rally Championship under its current format. K-1000 for the first time shifted to the European Special Stage format in 1996 before which, the rallies were hardcore long-distance endurance events covering many states and usually more than 1000-mile long, and hence the name Karnataka-1000. It is one of the few events that were organised and run successfully by hardcore and passionate motorsports lovers and ran regularly. Some of the other rallies that had multiple editions are the Popular Rally in Kerala, the South India Rally in Chennai, the Charminar Challenge or the Deccan rally and the Coffee Day rally.
INDIAinF1.com has put together all the winners of the K-1000 from 1975, a compilation first undertaken in 2009 by the late Bharat Raj and Annabelle Manwaring, the promoters of INRC from 2009 to 2011. The last 11 years were added and some gaps were filled. The IMG-PSP duo also sourced historic images of Indian rallying and specially of K-1000 from many sources, with the major contribution coming from the Father of Indian Motorsport Photography, the late George Francis. A poster was released to commemorate the 35th K-1000 celebrations as KMSC completed 35 long years of dedicated service to motorsports, then. Now the club is getting ready to host both the 2w and 4w K-1000 rally once again for the 45th year.
Here is a list of the all the winners of K-1000, a jewel in the pride of Indian Rallying. Each round’s report will be added shortly. Or you can check the reports at INRC: Winners’ Hall of Fame here. Currently the list contains only the 4-wheel winners and the 2-w biker champions’ list is work in progress and will be updated soon.
Multiple Asia Pacific Rally champion Gaurav Gill tops the table with six K-1000 wins followed by 7-time INRC champion N Leelakrishnan who bagged the K-1000 five times followed by Naren Kumar, who won it for three times, along with Ravi Gupta, who also had three wins, but it appears he may have navigated for the inaugural edition winner DR Sivaram in 1980, for his second K1000 trophy. Kiran Mody, too had won the K1000 three times.

Gautam and Sanjeev take over KMSC reins, promise more activities
By David Bodapati
Bengaluru, 15 Nov 2020: International Formula 1 Marshal, BS Gautam, and former K1000 champion in his class, Sanjeev P Shah, were elected as the President and Secretary, respectively, of the Karnataka Motor Sports Club (KMSC) at the AGM held here on November 12.

Satyavrath KMSC is the founding member of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). Formed in 1954, the Bangalore Motor Sports Club founded by Fred Webb, later became KMSC to cover the motorsports activity in the entire Mysore State, which is now Karnataka. This story published by a German in the erstwhile kmsc.org was verified by INDIAinF1.com with the three granddaughters of Webb, who are now settled in Australia, and visit India, only once in a while. It has a chequered history and is the only active club which has been continuously conducting the K-1000, a premier National rally for 44 years, as part of Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) except in 2018 when it was denied a national round.
The members of KMSC elected its Managing Committee for a period of two years. A long-standing member and specialist route-setter for the Indian rallies, DA Bhaskar Gupta, now takes the reins as Vice-President after serving as Secretary for the last two years. BS Prakash will be the new Joint Secretary while MD Sathyavratha will be the new Treasurer. The list also includes another senior member Praneet Perumal, Janardan Babu and Shanmuga, elected to the managing committee. The new panel is also expected to co-opt three members and currently advocate and motorsport enthusiast VS Harish is the first to be co-opted and he is likely to take care of the legal issues of the club.
Praneeth Perumal, a veteran of KMSC, who has been instrumental in the club reaching great heights with various teams in the past, especially with the late Bharat Raj, has served in various commissions of the FMSCI and also has been a steward, but has not been able to give enough time in the last few years. His re-entry into the active action, along with another long-standing and active member Satya, will be a boon to the club and the new office-bearers will do well to take their experience in handling the motorsports activities.

Praneeth Perumal, a stalwart of KMSC, is
back into the managing committeeShivu Shivappa, the outgoing president, who recently relinquished the vice-president post of FMSCI, is not in the new committee as he opted out after two terms of service to the club. “Time to move on and give space to new faces to take the club forwards,” said Shivappa.
“On behalf of the Newly- elected Managing Committee, I thank all the members, my predecessor Mr Shivu Shivappa and the past committee for the efforts and wonderful work they have put in to keep the flag of one of the most-prestigious motorsports clubs in India flying high,” acknowledged the incumbent President.
When asked about his priorities as the new president, Gautham said: “Reviving grassroots motorsports and the time-regulated rallies, what used to be the TSDs, will be among one of the immediate things we want to do as a team. These events are the life-line of the club and are stepping stones for bigger things in motorsports for riders, drivers and navigators. So we will take up more activities to encourage budding sportspersons in each of their sport, irrespective of the discipline. Whether be it rally, or racing, or motocross or sprints and bike events, improving the participating and increasing the number of activities will be our top priority.”

Sanjeev Shah is elected as the KMSC Secretary. “Karnataka has been one of the cradles of motorsport activities and it has produced scores of champions over the years, its flagship event, the K1000 has etched a name for itself as a popular and vibrant event year after year, for 45 years. But many of the experienced and senior motorsports aficionados are feeling left out. So to help youngsters gain from their experience and knowledge and to create a platform for enthusiastic co-operation and learning between the generations, we are planning to start a veterans event,” said the Fire and Recovery Marshal at the Yas Marina F1 Grands Prix, for the last 10 years. He was also an F1 Marshal at all the three Indian GPs from 2011 to 2013.

Janardhan “I have received a call from our new FMSCI President Mr Akbar Ebrahim and he is very keen that we revive all grassroots activity. And we are also hopeful that we will get all the support from the federation,” concluded Gautam, who is a member of KMSC from 1982. He is currently a Covid Warrior supporting the Karnataka officials with HAM radio and communication work along with other Ham team members, many of whom are active Club members.

Bhaskar Gupta, moves up from secretary to Vice-President for the current 2-year term. Sanjeev P Shah, a member of the Club from 1987, was a former biker, who began with one of the first teams under Shekar Bojanna, way back in the nineties. He won the K1000 in 1991, in the 350 class, navigating for the legendary late Rajan Joshua and went on to win the first runners up spot in the Nationals in 1997 after he switched over to cars, the year which saw a huge number of riders and drivers from KMSC winning honours at the national level. “Secretary is just a badge and we at KMSC have always worked as a team and I look forward to contributing to the growth and continue for the betterment of the club. It is the passion for motorsports which kept us hooked to the sport and I am thankful to get this opportunity to give something back to the club,” said Shah, who is now active as a steward and an administrator.

BS Prakas, Joint Secretary, KMSC Another senior member of the club, Bhaskar Gupta, who just relinquished the post of secretary will now be the vice-president of the club. With three decades of experience as a steward and sports administrator, having served the club in various capacities, Gupta is known for his route-setting skills. Along with Satya, he was instrumental in setting the 1996 K-1000 route, near Maddur, and at India Mines which is talked about even now for the five superb stages, after the National championship shifted to the European stage rallying format for the first time that year. Following in the footsteps of his uncle Chakrapani EG, he took to motorsports and never looked back.
“Our focus and priority will be to increase the number of activities. We want more and more people to take up the sport and also we want to do events at the grassroots in all disciplines including TSD and Picnic rallies. Only when we encourage more sportspersons to take up the sport, then we will have more champions in the making. So it is important to keep organising the activities and get the right sponsors to back them up,” concluded Gupta.

Shanmuga, new member of the managing committee. Office bearers: President: BS Gautam; Vice-President: DA Bhaskar Gupta; Secretary: Sanjeev P Shah; Joint Secretary: BS Prakash; Treasurer: MD Sathyavrath. Managing Committee: 1. Praneet Perumal; 2. Janardan Babu; 3. Shanmuga. Co-opted members: 1. VS Harish; 2 & 3. To be co-opted soon.
