    Shlok Ghorpade emerges triumphant in Supercross Championship 2024; Brings honour to KTM on debut

    Kochi, 30 Nov. 2024: India’s top rider Shlok Ghorpade created history emerging triumphant in the MRF MoGrip fmsci Indian National Supercross Championship 2024 to stop the long reign of TVS Factory riders as he won the first moto in the top SX1 class of the final round which concluded at Eloor, near here on Saturday. The Supercross Nationals was promoted by Godspeed Racing and the final round was organised by KMA Motorsports guided by veteran Musa Sherif and Anil Abbas, in collaboration with Bandidos Motorsports, Kerala.

    The Satara star thus brought a stunning victory and title triumph for the KTM Factory Racing team which made its debut in the National Championship this year by winning the Overall Championship and the premier class by garnering 201 points, six more than his rival, the talented Ikshan Shanbagh, also from Satara. While Ghorpade won the first moto after taking the hole shot, Ikshan came back to take a win in the second moto of SX1 class, but it was too little and too late, as Ghorpade clinched the well-fought championship by finishing second in the second moto.

    The capacity crowd of about 15000, enjoyed a thrilling event, witnessing a supercross after a long time and were rewarded with plenty of action and stunts in the night. The track was one of the biggest among all the six rounds and had fast stretches and technical jumps for riders to showcase their talent and skill.

    Shlok Ghorpade, who just completed 17 years on October 18, was astride a KTM 250, and was in his elements maneuvering the jumps and berms with high skills and near-perfect technique. He recently fine tuned his skills in California, USA and showed immense confidence and class in the face of tough and sometimes, ugly competition. TVS Racing team, which has been dominating the Supercross and two-wheeler rally championships for many years now, has won the Motocross/Supercross championships for the last 14 consecutive years. But they were jolted by the young talent and despite Ikshaan providing tough time to him, they had to rope in the newly-crowned road racing champion, Sarthak Chavan to try and beat the marauding Ghorpade. But the latter, stood his ground and won a well-deserving title, his seventh National Championship crown in different sub-classes and dirt Nationals.

    “I have been working and planning for the past four years to win the SX 1 class. I worked hard for this championship victory and it is the fruit for my hardwork and dedication of my team and sponsors,” the 2022 Junior SX1 National champion quipped on the morning after.

    However, the season has been a tough one, with the much experienced and strong team like TVS Racing on the other side. He endured falls, the blocking of racing lines in every round and race, and fought as a lone warrior against a huge team and thus, the success is all the more sweet. “I can’t think of a single day where I didn’t think of improving and getting better. I was becoming too serious. That is when I thought I should start enjoying my races and as a result, the points came back,” he felt.

    “I banked on my family and knew my potential. I have no legacy to protect and I had nothing to lose. The stakes are high and the tempo increased from the Pune round,” he added. Yes, the blocking too ‘increased’ from the Pune round.

    The heat was on and he was boxed so much that for the first time in two years, he was not on the podium in the Bengaluru round. However, the champion rose like a phoenix and won the first moto, to virtually seal the issue and won with a second place in the final moto, as the championship went to wire.

    “Physically it was tiring but it was much more a  mental game. Once I accepted that my winning streak of over five rounds was broken, it was easier for me to get up, dust myself and relaunch the attack. My core team and I worked on all possibilities, strategised and planned for the worst.   I always hope for the best while preparing for the worst. And the results are there, now, for everyone to see,” he spoke as if in nostalgia, of the just-concluded season’s ups and downs.

    Pune’s Akshat Hupale crowned Junior National Champion: Supercross

    Pune, 29 Nov 2022: Akshat Hupale, a 7th standard student of PICT Model school in Balewadi here was crowned National champion in the Junior section (Class 8) after the conclusion of the five-round MRF Mogrip Indian National Supercross championship recently.

    A few years ago the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the governing body for motorsports in India, introduced Class 8 junior SX2 to provide an opportunity for young riders in the age group of 8 to 12 years to compete at the national level on the same terrain and courses, that top-class riders take part. This bold step to catch them young saw the Nationals blood many youngsters and it helped prepare riders for the international competitions at an early age, which is the norm abroad.

    The 2022 season comprised six rounds—Nashik, Pune, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Goa, Bangalore. Akshat, who practices at his private facility in Wai in Satara on weekends with Russian trainers Georgy Gusev and, Vitaly Gusev and Dustin Phares from the United States and India’s Dakar Hero Ashish Raorane, aims to ride at Asian and international level in the coming years. Akshat’s total points at the end of six rounds were 225 and his championship winning lead over C. Bhairav was 42 points, which was maximum across all the eight classes.

    The 12-year school boy, Akshat said, Goa Round was most challenging as he was battling with Viral Fever and nursing a bad throat. Having the championship lead was my mantra,” said Hupale.

    “Going into last round and virtually sealing championship was great feeling. I just wanted to Win the championship and then consolidate the lead over the nearest competitor. Happy to have done it in style and sign off under-12 category with a victory. Consistency was key as I am the only rider across categories in 2022 to have won all six rounds with highest points,” is how the Champion narrated his 2022 season.

    Incidentally, after the final round , which completed in bangalore on Sunday last, Thursday was an apt occasion here in Pune when Akshat was felicitated in presence of the top officials of the FMSCI, for his crowning glory. The occasion was the announcement of the first ever franchise-based Supercross league in India.

    Rugved Barguje sparkles in Goa Round 5: Supercross Nationals

    Mapusa (Goa),13 Nov 2022: Braving a dislocated shoulder that is yet to heal, Pune’s Rugved Barguje from Petronas TVS Racing team won a golden double to win the Best Rider tag and reclaimed the championship lead in the premier class from veteran CD Jinan in the fifth and penultimate round of the MRF Mogrip National Supercross Championship promoted by Godspeed Racing at the Carnival grounds, Opposite to Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa here on Sunday.

    Going into the Goa round trailing by a point to CD Jinan, Rugved won both the motos comfortably on Sunday to take a five-point lead ahead of the last round in Bengaluru next Sunday. Jinan finished second in both the motos of Group A SX1 class, the feature event of the day. Rugved leads the championship with 172 points to Jinan’s 167. Originally slated as the fifth round on Nov 6 but put off due to rains, Bengaluru will now be the sixth and final round on Nov 20.

    In Moto 1 of the Group A SX1, the 21-year rider from Pune, Rugved, did not get the best of starts he is known for, but still got the hole-shot and quickly squeezed into the lead at the first corner pushing veteran rider and championship contender CD Jinan to second and rode a steady and consistent race on a tight and technical track to win by about seven bike lengths. Jinan, the 47-year stalwart from Thrissur, who started on the far-side behind the gates, endured the disadvantage to follow the leader and reduced the gap towards the end. But it was Rugved’s day as he took a comfortable victory despite the pain he endured at every jump and jerk. In the fourth round in Vadodara, Rugved Barguje had a nasty fall and dislocated his right shoulder. The braveheart, got up and finished fifth, for a valuable 11 points and came back to win Moto2 in severe pain with his shoulder heavily taped after shots of painkillers.

    “I had an amazing day and I am very happy to get two race wins under my belt. Hoping for the best next weekend,” said Rugved.

    In the 12-lap second moto, boxed by the top two riders Prajwal V took a ‘fall’ at the first corner affecting Jinan and Rugved wasted no time to zoom into the lead. Jinan trailed in third behind Ajay Srinivas, who crashed later in the opening lap itself, but Jinan played safe later, and retained his second position. Rugved, meanwhile, slowly increased the gap managing the hoops in quick time with good technique and was careful on the long jumps to protect his lead. Jinan, made a couple of mistakes and lost some time with two laps to go, and the Pune lad won with ease to reclaim the title-lead in the top class.

    Triple for Sarthak Chavan; Jinendra leads Class 2

    Pune’s Sarthak Chavan won both the SX2 motos in Class 2 and added one more moto winning the Junior SX1 first race. But Jinendra Sangave, who represented India in the MiniGP World finals recently, recovered to a third place in the first Moto and took a second in the next, to increase his Championship lead to a comfortable 157 points with Shlok Ghorpade and Ajay Srinivas fighting behind him, more than 20 points adrift.

    Indian Experts class goes to wire – Arun sparkles

    Popular privateer Arun T from Hassan won the  Indian Experts Group C Class 6 but it was Petronas TVS star Sachin D who took a slender one-point championship lead from teammate Imran Pasha as the Championship battle goes to the wire.  Arun also won the Private Experts Class 5 ahead of Yogesh and Shabuddin Syed, a popular local rider from Goa Racing team.

    Akshat Hupale virtually seals the Junior SX2 title

    Another Pune rider Akshat  Hupale virtually sealed the Junior SX2 championship winning the first moto in Class 8 while Bengaluru school boy Bhaiarav C upset the applecart of the champion astride a Gasgas machine in Moto2 and in the process displayed enough skills to defend a marauding Sujan in the last two laps with a mature ride. Way behind, Akshat made sure he took the third, which was enough to seal the championship.

    Shlok Ghorpade and Sarthak Chavan shared the honours in the Junior SX1 but it was Bengaluru lass Anastya Pol, who stole the limelight with a podium in the second Moto, competing on equal terms with boys.

  • Prithvi Dhillon adjudged best rider of the final round in Goa: MRF MoGrip Supercross Nationals

    Goa, 20 Nov 2019: Chandigarh Rider Prithvi Dhiillon won the fifth and final round of the MOGRIP-FMSCI MRF Supercross championship held in Sao José de Areal, here, on Sunday.

    Prithvi headed in SX-1-Foreign Open Class while veteran Kerala rider CD Jinan won the second place and Yuvraj Konde Deshmukh of Ajmera Racing finished third. Prithvi was also awarded the best rider of the event.

    With the Goa leg, Supercross Nationals, the biggest off-road two-wheeler Nationals, the National Supercross Championship came to an end. The previous four rounds of the season were held in Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Baroda and Nashik.

  • In rain, CD Jinan beats leader Harith Noah in Supercross Round 4

    Jaipur, 10 Sept. 2018: Veteran CD Jinan of Angata Racing astride a Kawasaki KX 250F won both the Motos with a display of skill and talent to beat favourite and championship leader Harith Noah in the fourth round of the 19th MRF MoGrip-FMSCI National Supercross Championship here on Sunday.

    Team TVS Racing rider Noah, who began the fourth round of the season with 110 points to 86 of privateer Jinan, needed to win both Motos to solidify his position at the top, but the track conditions probably made it difficult for him to adjust to.

    Jinan on the other hand used his experience of riding in the Dubai desert where he practices, thanks to his team Ang’ata Racing, which based in the Middle-east Kingdom.

    “The races were very closely fought and there was all the effort for competitors to get past each other despite the course having been battered overnight by heavy torrential rain,” explained Shyam Kothari, the Director of Godspeed Racing, the promoters of National Supercross.

    “When it started raining last night we were skeptical whether we would be able to conduct the championship, but the course was all intact though some table tops had got slushy, but it was all manageable,” Kothari said.

    The competition was worth a watch not just in the foreign bikes section but also in the other categories too. As Noah finished second in both Motos behind Jinan, his lead was reduced from 24 to 18 points going into the Round 5. Noah now has 144 to Jinan’s 126, which makes the final two rounds very crucial for both the riders and their respective teams.

    TVS Racing nonetheless kept its flag flying high by winning in other categories-Imran Pasha winning the Class 2 Novice Group and M Kalimohan taking the honours in Class 5 Indian Experts. Both these groups saw TVS riders dominating with the RTR machines all through the course.

    Pune’s Sarthak wins
    There was interesting battle in the Junior classes in the absence of the championship leader Yuvraj Kondedeshmukh, who recently represented India at the World Motocross Championship in Australia.
    In Class 9 Junior SX2, Sarthak had a tough fight with Shlok Ghorpade of Satara with both riding Kawasaki bikes while others in the fray were on KTMs.

  • Karan Kadam wins Round 4: MRF National Supercross

    Kolhapur, 23 August 2017: Young TVS rider Karan Kadam of Bengaluru won the best rider title in the fourth round of the MRF National Supercross Championship at the Mohite Racing Academy track near Tamgaon village in Karvir tehsil on Sunday August 20?.

    The 17-year-old rider secured 40 points in the fourth round in the ‘A’ group and lifted the best rider title. The fourth round of the M R F national championship was conducted here jointly by the Mohite Racing Academy and Sports Track, Pune, in eight different groups.

    The fifth round of the tournament will be held in goa on October 14, and the sixth and final round will be held at Bangalore on December 9.

  • TVS Racing’s Aravind KP wins MRF National Supercross Championship

    Bengaluru, 21 Nov 2013: Aravind K P of TVS Racing, romped home in his own true style, winning the second moto of the fifth and final leg of the MRF FMSCI MOGRIP National Supercross Championship, which was held over the weekend at the makeshift CODISSIA track in Coimbatore.

    Having already notched up a comfortable lead of 31 points in the championship over his nearest rival, Javed Shaikh, a privateer from Goa, Aravind needed to win at least one moto to clinch the title. An eager Aravind however pushed a bit too hard in the first Moto and ended up finishing third and adding only 16 points to his kitty.

    His TVS Racing teammate Harith Noah took the first place while privateer C D Jinan from Kerala came second. The thirst for victory brought out a completely different rider in him in Moto 2.

    Despite stiff competition from Jinan, a determined Aravind K P rode head down in a steady line, with clean and confident jumps to emerge the clear winner. He finished with 173 points, claiming the trophy in the Foreign Open Class (250 – 500cc).

    Coimbatore, 22 May 2011: Picking up from where they left off after the first round of the MRF National Supercross Championship in Bangalore, Team TVS Racing, dominated at the Coimbatore racetrack, finishing with podium positions in every race participated. Leading from the front were their riders Aravind K P and Pradeep H K. Both riders pulled off stunning manoeuvres while displaying superior supercross riding skills. Egged on by an enthused crowd, Team TVS Racing’s Aravind K P was adjudged the winner of the Class I Foreign Open – Group A 250 cc winning both motos by a comfortable lead, while bagging the “Best Rider of the Day” award.

    A thrilling first race, Moto One of Class 1, Foreign Open, Group A 250cc – 500 cc, saw Team TVS Racing rider Aravind K P take the lead from the first corner itself. Aravind exhibited unsurpassed riding talent to consistently widen the gap between himself and his rivals and win the first race. A keen contest between privateer Veer Patel, privateer C D Jinan and Team TVS Racing’s Pradeep H K ensued for the next few laps until Pradeep H K in a blinder of a move edged past rival Veer Patel to take second position. Veer Patel came in third.

    However, it was the Second Moto of the Class 1, Foreign Open, Group A 250cc – 500 cc that was the most eventful and stimulating race of the day. Race leader Aravind K P of Team TVS Racing once again took the lead from the first corner itself, with H K Pradeep and Veer Patel close at his heels. Veer Patel managed to get the better of H K Pradeep after his motorcycle collided with the rear wheel of H K Pradeep’s bike causing both riders to fall and giving room for privateer C D Jinan from Kerala to move up to second position. In the next lap itself, an adept move from Veer Patel ensured him the second position. The fifth lap did not prove good for C D Jinan either with TVS Racing’s H K Pradeep overtaking him to take third place.

    It was an all Team TVS Racing affair in Class 3, Indian Experts, Group C upto 260 cc as well, with H K Pradeep taking the winning position with 37 points, followed by Aravind K P with 35 points and Pramod Joshua with 32 points. Despite a slow start in the first moto, Aravind K P and Pradeep H K fought a keen contest, with fellow team mate Pramod Joshua and Naresh to secure the first and second place. The second moto had different story to tell though, with H K Pradeep and Pramod Joshua taking the lead. It was sheer grit and experience that saw Aravind K P to the podium in the last lap of the race.

    In the Class 5, Indian Experts, Group C upto 260cc, team TVS Racing won four of the top five places. The only perceivable competition came from that of privateer C D Jinan who secured the second position. Pramod Joshua of Team TVS Racing won the race with Mohammed Azghar taking third place. Privateer Girshin from Thrissur, Team Kerala’s exhibited impressive riding talent in Class 2, Novice, Group C as well as the Class 6 Private Experts, Group C, winning both races handsomely.

    Riders from Coimbatore impressed the crowed and officials alike in a closely run race in Class 4, Locals, Group B with 16 of them jostling for space around corners to overtake one another. Prakash R took top honours winning the race, on his Apacher RTR 160 followed by Anand A and Ramesh Kumar P.

    Team TVS Racing’s Aravind K P now leads the championship with 77 points followed by team mate H K Pradeep with 69 points and privateer Veer Patel with 62 points. The next leg of the championship is scheduled to take place in Chennai in September this year.

  • HK Pradeep bags top honours in MRF Supercross Round 1

    Bangalore 15 May 2011: Team TVS Racing put up a spirited fight at the first leg of the MRF National Supercross Championship despite suffering a setback even before the first round of the competition. The initial leg, held at Bangalore today, did not see participation of Team TVS Racing’s flamboyant lead rider C S Santosh who had crashed on his Apache RTR 250 fx motorcycle during the practice rounds. A sombre TVS Team however took up the challenge and finished the day in style by taking podium positions in every race in which they participated. H K Pradeep who was adjudged the best rider of the day after winning the Class I Foreign Open – Group A 250 cc – 500 cc race.

    It was excitement from the word go. The first race of the day, Foreign Open Group A 250cc – 500 cc saw privateer C D Jinan from Kerala taking the lead initially in the first lap. But his glory was short lived as he fell while negotiating a sharp curve towards the middle of the first lap giving competitor privateer Veer Patel from Vadodara the chance to snatch the lead, followed closely by HK Pradeep in second place and Aravind K P in third place, both from Team TVS Racing. But as fate would have it, Veer Patel’s motorcycle stalled in lap 5 giving H K Pradeep and Aravind K P the opening to move into first and second place. Aravind K P then engaged in a closely fought endeavour to take the lead and win the race. Veer Patel came in third.

    In second moto however, Aravind overcame a slow start to finish ahead of privateer Veer Patel, but was not able to get the better of team mate H K Pradeep who finished first. Both Veer Patel and Aravind K P overtook C D Jinan in the first turn itself and continued until the end of the race finishing in second and third positions respectively. In all 11 riders participated in each of the motos.

    Team TVS Racing excelled in the Class III Indian Experts Group C up to 260 cc race as well, winning not only one, two and three but also four five and six. The only perceivable competition came from that of privateer CD Jinan, who was placed third at the end of the second lap. But in his enthusiasm to push his machine to the limits, he fell in lap 3 giving TVS riders just the room they were looking for. Both motors of Class III Indian Experst Group B upto 260 cc was again dominated by Team TVS Racing riders with teammates Aravind KP and Pradeep HK finishing first and second and fellow team mate Pramod Joshua finishing a distant third. The Class II Novice Group C upto 260cc was won by privateer Anil Kumar from Bangalore, while Basheer Ahmed of Team TVS Racing and Privateer Syed Dastagiri of Shimoga stood second and third respectively.

    The locals impressed in a closely run race with almost nine to ten riders jostling for space around corners to overtake one another. Madhu S took top honours winning the race, followed by Shabaz Khan.

    The next leg of the championship will take place in Comibatore next Sunday, 22nd May 2011

  • CS Santosh blazes away to National Supercross title

    Team TVS Racing finishes 1st and 2nd overall in MRF National Supercross Championship

    Pune, 13 Dec 2010: In a fitting finish to the MRF Supercross National Championship, team TVS Racing, which is celebrating its 25th year of racing asserted its supremacy on the race track sweeping the first and second championship positions.

    The final race of the championship which was held in Pune saw Team TVS Racing’s star rider C S Santosh, not only finish the race with finesse but also steal the thunder by being crowned best rider of the day.

    Santosh finished the championship round with a total of 219 points, a difference of 45 points from his nearest rival and team mate, Aravind K P who ended the race with 169 points. The hierarchy of winners of the MRF Supercross Championship therefore stands as C S Santosh as the overall champion, followed by Aravind K P in second place and C D Jinan, in third place with 168 championship points.

    Though it was a matter of winning ten points in the Pune leg to sweep the championship, it was no easy task for C S Santosh, as both track and competition were equally fierce. Fellow team mate Aravind K P rode hard to hold on to the lead until the third lap in the first moto when he lost his balance allowing C S Santosh to capitalize and whiz past him to take final honours. Santosh finished off in signature style winning both motos to bag the championship.

    “Speed, performance and endurance is what it took Team TVS Racing to cross the finish line in the winning position on the race track. This is a special win for us as it coincides with our celebration of 25th year of racing. I give full credit to all our riders for their stunning performances this year. We are proud to have spotted and nurtured the talent in C S Santosh, who rides for us not only in India but abroad as well. Aravind K P has also proved to be an able competitor.” said Arvind Pangaonkar, Adivsor Racing, TVS Motor Company.

    Winning rider C S Santosh said that he was overwhelmed with his performance in Pune and it was a special feeling to win the championship in the silver jubilee year of TVS Racing. “Key skills that I picked up while training in the US and while riding abroad has helped me immensely” he said.
