    Parante, Hyman claim top honours in Indian Racing League

    Chennai, 1 Sept. 2024: Portuguese veteran Alvaro Parante (Speed Demons Delhi) and UK’s Raoul Hyman (Goa Aces JK Racing) held their nerves in a thrilling finish to top the two Indian Racing League races as the historic first-ever night street races concluded at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, near Island grounds, here on Sunday.

    On a day of high drama and wheel-to-wheel action, with plenty of Safety Car periods, the 39-year-old Parante was pushed to the limit by a couple of young Bengalureans, Sohil Shah (Goa Aces JA Racing) and Rishon Rajeev (Bangalore Speedsters), before the Portuguese driver used his vast experience to pick up pace at the crucial moment towards the fag end of the race for a fine win. Shah briefly led the race before Parante, who had slipped to fourth after an error, caught up and passed him.

    Earlier, Raoul Hyman and Gabriela Jilkova delivered a 1-2 finish for Goa Aces JA Racing in Race-1 that its share of drama. The duo survived it all to take the top two podium spots ahead of Malaysian Alister Yoong (Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers) who did extremely well to climb from P5 to pick up vital points for his team.

    Thus, after two rounds, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers lead the championship table with 93 points, followed by Chennai Turbo Riders (83), Speed Demons Delhi (74), Goa Aces JA Racing (73), Bangalore Speedsters (39) and Blackbirds Hyderabad (36). The Round-3 is scheduled for September 14-15 in Coimbatore.

    The Indian Racing Festival, promoted by Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd, is sponsored by Kingfisher Soda, JK Tyres, Mobil 1 and Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited.

    Coimbatore, July 29: Bengaluru’s Rishon Rajeev and Nikhilesh Raju, and Rivaan Dev Preetham, the 11-year-old from Chennai, took the honours in their respective categories in the third round of the Meco Fmsci National Rotax Max Karting Championship 2024 at the brand new CoASTT circuit, built by India’s first F1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan, here on Sunday.

    Former champion and Indian F4 driver, Rishon Rajeev (Birel Art India), topped the Pre-Final and the Final in the Senior Max class to underline his dominance. In fact, Rishon won the 19-lap Final by 7.4 seconds with Rayo Racing’s Krish Gupta from Mumbai finishing second and Bengalurean Ruhaan Alva (MSport) coming in third.

    Nikhilesh Raju (Peregrine Racing) extended his win-streak by winning both Pre-Final and Final races in the Junior Max category. He edged out Gurugram’s Aarav Dewan (Leapfrog Racing) in the Final with Eshanth Vengatesan (Chennai, MSport) taking P3 spot. In the Pre-Final too Nikhilesh was a comfortable winner while Eshanth finished second, ahead of Aarav.

    Rivaan Dev Preetham led a 1-2 finish for MSport in the Micro Max Final while finishing comfortably ahead of Rehan Khan R. Rayo Racing’s Danish Dalmiya from Mumbai completed the podium. Earlier, in the Pre-Final, the trio had finished in the same order.

    Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, V. Balakrishnan and District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati were the chief guests at the prize distribution ceremony.

    Cooper Webster is first Indian F4 champion; Rishon wins a race

    Irungattukottai (Tamil Nadu), 17 Dec 2023: Cooper Webster has added to Australia’s growing list of international titles after securing the Indian F4 Championship on the weekend.
     
    In what has been a highly-impressive 2023 campaign for Webster, the Victorian managed to wrap up the Indian championship midway through the final round of the season at the Madras International Circuit, near Chennai, adding to his runner-up GB4 Championship finish earlier in the year.
     
    Webster didn’t need to do much to win the title having built up a solid lead in the previous four rounds, but the 20-year-old chose to finish on a high and started off with a perfect outing on Saturday with pole position in both qualifying sessions.
     
    Webster then converted his pole position to a Race 1 victory thanks to a dominant performance where he led from lights to flag and crossed the line 11 seconds ahead of Akshay Bohra.
     
    On Sunday morning, Webster dropped to third in the second race, as 2023 Ferrari Driver Academy Asia Pacific and Oceania Selection Programme participant Rishon Rajeev of Bengaluru picked up his first race win of the year.
     
    The Australian didn’t have to wait very long to get back onto the top step of the podium though after another solid outing in the event’s third race saw him record his eighth win of the year and seal the title with an unassailable lead.
     
    Rajeev did manage to get a minor consolation prize of a podium in the final race, as Webster finished couple of places behind in fifth – ultimately ending the year with 282.5 points – more than 60 points ahead of the second placed Rajeev on the standings.  
     
    The Aussie also managed to clock up the fastest lap in three of the four races in the final round, taking his total to seven fastest laps for the season, while also scoring five pole positions.
     
    A Motorsports Australia post said: In addition to Webster, young driver Jack Taylor continued his first ever open wheel season with three top 10 finishes out of four races – his best result being the final race of the year where he finished seventh.
     
    In addition to his impressive seventh place finish, Taylor also finished eighth and ninth respectively throughout the round, while being forced to retire in the round’s second race.

    Irungattukotti, 3 Dec 2022: Malaysia’s Alister Yoong continued his good run bringing a victory for GodSpeed Kochi in the Sprint Race 1 to make a strong comeback in the Round 3 of the inaugural Indian Racing League at the Madras International Circuit which saw spells of rain here on Saturday.

    While Alister Yoong, son of the first Malaysian F1 driver Alex Yoong, who did brilliant work last week-end, was upto it again and clocked 12min, 22.995 seconds for the eight laps before the race was Red flagged due to heavy rain. With only seven minutes left and 75 per cent completed, the race was not started again and Yoong took the victory in the first sprint followed by young talented Bengalurean Rishon Rajeev, who did a splendid job for Speedsters clocking 12:25.421. Lola Lovinfosse of Black Birds Hyderabad came third bagging 15 valuable points to save the blushes for the Championship leaders. Her teammate in the second car Akhil Rabindra came fifth to chip in 10 points to salvage a total of 25 point in the Sprint race behind the 33 bagged by Kochi team.

    Besides Alister’s 25 points, Ruhaan Alva in the other Kochi car garnered 8 points with a sixth place to steal the day’s honours for Godspeed Kochi.

    After the first Sprint Race in Round 3, Black BIrds Hyderabad continue to lead the standings with 193 points followed by Kochi on 153 and Bangalore, 119.

    Earlier, Nikhil Bohra put GodSpeed Kochi on pole in the first Qualifier, to put Alister Yoong on pole with the best lap time of 1:31.825. Jani Neel representing the Black Birds Hyderabad settled for the second spot with the best lap timing of 1:33.212 helping his teammate Akhil Rabindra start on P2 for the Sprint Race 1. Each car has two drivers, and Driver A will qualify for Driver B and vice-versa for the two sprint races. The combined qualifying times will decide the grid for the Feature race.

    In Qualifier 2, Akash Gowda (1:42.017) took pole position in changing weather conditions for Speed Demons Delhi along with Sandeep Kumar from Chennai Turbo Riders (1:45.354) who cemented the second place.

    On Sunday, the Sprint Race 2 will be held followed by the Feature Race.

    The finale of the Indian Racing League will take place in Hyderabad on 10th & 11th December 2022.

    Rishon, Ishaan book ticket to Portimao for Super Finals; Arjun Maini mingles with youngsters

    Bangalore, January 11: Bangalore’s young racers dominated the MECO-FMSCI National Karting Championship 2020 (Rotax Max), sweeping all three titles on offer with Arjun Maini, Rishon Rajeev and Ishaan Madesh clinching the honours over an action-packed weekend that concluded at Meco Kartopia in Bagalur, near here on Sunday.

    Organised by Spitfire Motorsports, the Rotax Max Nationals saw the three winners emerge in the Senior, Junior and Micro Max categories respectively and they were automatically qualified to take part in Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao from January 23 to 30 later this month, at the Kartodromo Internacional do Algarve. Portimao circuit will stage another impressive karting trophy, with 300 drivers coming from more than 50 countries. Unlike the X30 with different point system and the reverse grid for a race, the rules for the Rotax Max are same for all the 50 countries and the points for Pre-finals and Finals are different. It gives a chance for a karter to come back and win a championship even if he had missed a round, if he has the talent and skill, and chance to bounce back.

    The Rotax Max Indian Championship drew to a close with three rounds held back-to-back at the same venue to ensure safety and convenience of all drivers and teams in the middle of a `subsiding’ pandemic, as Indians too await the Vaccination. The weekend also saw India’s first Formula 1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan driving in a few races as a guest driver.

He successfully completed his years in the lowest age group, Micro Max, dominating with multiple titles, and already tested the competition in the Junior Class on Sunday, preparing for next season.     Formula 2 racer Arjun Maini (NK Racing Academy) was head and shoulders above the Rotax Max field, garnering the maximum points in each of the three rounds to comfortably take the crown. Kush Maini said: “I am so excited to see so much talent and, so much interest. Even though the girds are small here, the competition is good and the talent is there. We have to nurture them and provide the right opportunities.”

    “Youngsters should focus on racing and not worry about a bad kart or other obstacles. Despite all these problems and obstacles of not having a good kart, not having sponsor, one should focus, work hard and try to overcome all of them without cribbing and try to race clean and win. Only such dedication and sincere hard work can take you to the top,” said Arjun Maini, who came from the grassroot level by dint of hard work, and commitment. He was so positive and mingled with all the juniors and smilingly obliged all the fans and junior karters and teammates. So much so, the few friends and teammates celebrated by drenching Kush, Arjun, David, Nandan with bottles of cold water, and later by even throwing eggs on each other. Good banther!

    “After all the high pressure of the season, coming down to my hometown getting into a kart and having fun is nice. I always love to get into a kart and drive,” said Arjun when asked how he feels to come back from racing at an F1 weekend to this humble Kartopia and getting into a kart. `Having fun and enjoying what you do, is the key,” chipped in Kush, who himself raced with authority at the British F3, till the half-way mark before losing points in rain due to issues with wet set-up (for rain) and finished the championship in 2nd place fighting till the fag end in the fickle English weather.

    Coming back to Rotax Max, Kush (NK Racing Academy), incidentally clinched the top position in each of the three rounds he had competed in. He didn’t take part in Round 2 due the death of his grandfather, and then in Round 5 due to some technical issues, which saw Arjun Maini restore the order, claiming the title.

    Agra’s Shahan Ali Moshin (MSPORT) took the second position with an aggregate of 400 points in the category while Bangalore’s Mihir Suman (Birel Art coached by Preetham Muniappa) finished just 4 points behind to take the third place in the championship table.

    Micro Max driver ditya, gets a Special Award

    Another Bangalore lad, Rishon Rajeev (Birel Art, also Preetham’s ward), kept his grilling run going, winning the Junior Max title with 436 points. Rishon began slowly, though, finishing third in Round 3’s two races and Round 4’s first. But thereafter he was in a league of his own, taking the top spot in the remaining three races. He won Best Driver of the Year Award for his consistent performances.

    Ruhaan Alva (MSPORT), who totally dominated the X30 Nationals to become a Junior National Champion earlier, could only get with 410 points as he had issues with the kart from the very first round and could not sort it out nor recover from the loss of initial points, and settled for second best. That in no way, takes the fight out put out Ruhaan and Rohaan, the senior of Madesh brothers. Rishon, did put in consistent performance and deserved his wins. And Rohaan, driving for Peregrine Racing International bagged 399 points from the five rounds to take third position in the Championship.

    Rohaan’s younger brother Ishaan Madesh (Peregrine Racing International), however, brought home a championship trophy by clinching the Micro Max title fairly comfortably. He was an epitome of talent and when he is on track blazing for all those wins, it’s like “Poetry in Motion”. He collected  445 points which was way better than Aditya Suresh Kamat (Birelart Racing; 413) and Arafath Sheikh (MSPORT; 413).

    Aditya was declared the Best Newcomer of the Championship. Ishaan Madesh won two special awards, for the most number of poles and the most number of wins through the season. No surprises there!

    The participation of Narain Karthikeyan ( F1 ), Arjun Maini ( F2 ) and Kush Maini ( British F3 ) added a lot of value to the championship and reinstated the value of the commitment of Meco Motorsports to provide a fantastic platform for young Indian drivers to progress from, thanks to Narain Karthikeyan for bringing his team NK Racing to Meco Kartopia.

    “A completely new experience for me. I started off Round 1 in the Micro Max Class just to find out that I’ve outgrown it. Becoming 8 kg overweight! I decided to drop out of the Round 2, as I was stuck between Micro and Junior classes. I tested out the Junior kart for two days and just for some exposure; I took an entry into Round 3 in the Junior kart. The kart felt so much faster and nicer. Due to a few problems in the set-up (kart) and me being completely new to the category, I couldn’t perform well. I made my way upto 7th in the Finals which is acceptable due the fact that I was the only one with such less experience. I really need to work on my strength if I want to be successful in this category. In Heat 1 of Round 3, I was able to get a good start all the way up to 5th, only to lose it to an incident. Besides that, it was really fun and I can’t stop fan-girling over the fact that Kush Maini came up to me and told me it was a decent first race in junior! Means, more than the world to me. Overall, it was a really fun weekend with the guys and also got have some fun in the wet! I promise to work hard and perform better next time. Congratulations, to all the winners!
