7th JK Tyre Hornbill Motor Rally flagged off

DIMAPUR, 4 Dec 2014: The 7th JK Tyre Hornbill Motor Rally was flagged-off here on Thursday with Mr Tovihoto Ayemi, Parliamentary Secretary Information Technology & Communication, Technical Education, Science & Technology and Taxes, doing the honours.

The JK Tyre Hornbill Motor Rally is organized by the Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) and coincides with the famous Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, a seven-day extravaganza of cultural performances, ethnic food courts, handlooms and handicrafts bazaars, film and art festivals, fashion shows and National rock music contest.

The JK Tyre Hornbill Rally will conclude on Friday at the Heritage Village, Kasima, the hub of the Festival with Mr TR Zeliang, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, giving away the prizes.

JK Tyre nurtured and developed the Hornbill Rally in a bid to provide opportunity to regional motorsports enthusiasts to express their talent and skill, be it driving or navigation. The Rally is now an integral part of the Hornbill Festival.

Over the years, the Hornbill Festival as evolved into a global tourist destination and the event received a massive boost and profile upgrade when Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself inaugurated the 2014 Festival earlier this week. In the past, the Hornbill Festival received endorsement from the President of India.

National championship leaders SK Ajgar Ali and navigator MK Mohammed Musthafa headline the JK Tyre Hornbill Rally which will be run on Friday after Thursday’s ceremonial flag-off.

Ali and Musthafa are the defending champions in the JK Tyre Hornbill Rally which they will start as the hot favourites and currently, they also are heading the FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship.

The objective of the TSD Rally is to maintain precise times and average speeds on various segments of a predefined route. Each team consists of a rider/driver and navigator. The route instructions, known as the Tulip, also provide assigned speeds. As such, participating vehicles do not require any special upgrade by way of safety features such as a roll cage.

Hence, any roadworthy vehicle is eligible to enter a TSD Rally and the crew is not required to don special gear such as fireproof overalls, gloves and helmets, as in a Stage Rally.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru boys Yash Aradhya and Ricky Donison emerged champions in Micro Max and Junior Max categories respectively in the 11th JK Tyre Karting Nationals, the 5th and final round of which concluded at the V-1 track on the Vizag-Bheemli beach road, here on Sunday, adds an official press release.

Aradhya, the 12-year old sixth standard student of Bishop Cotton’s in Bengaluru, had a virtually untroubled run in the Micro Max final as he built an early lead starting from pole position and nursed it to the finish line to clinch the championship in style with his fourth win in five rounds.

The Junior Max final was bitterly contested as pole-sitter Donison was quick off the blocks and led until Kush Maini, having started fourth, caught up with him. The two Bengaluru boys fought tooth and nail until Maini made a fine move to go into the lead that he kept to the finish.

Despite the second place finish, London-born 16-year old Donison, a student of Bangalore International School, still clinched the championship, albeit by just four points while Maini finished second.

The Senior Max Finals saw Chittesh Mandody of Mohite’s Racing snatching the lead from pole-sitter and team-mate Dhruv Mohite to win comfortably. Finishing second behind Mandody was Rayo Racing’s Nayan Chatterjee who slipped past Mohite in the latter half of the race.

Staying away from the battle ahead, 19-year old Bafna kept his wits about him and seemed content to finish fourth which earned him sufficient points to claim the championship in his class.

Earlier, Aradhya pulled off another brilliant win in the Pre-Final to consolidate his lead in the class championship while Maini could manage only fourth following a racing incident he was involved in as Donison, Ravindra and Akash Gowda finished ahead of him.

The Senior Max Pre-Finals saw Mohite coming up with a late move on front-runner Mandody to win the race while Bafna, driving well within himself and with an eye on his championship, came in third.

The results: Finals – Micro Max: Yash Aradhya (MECO Racing) 1; Chirag Ghorpade (BPC Racing) 2; Paul Francis (MECO Racing) 3. Championship winner: Aradhya (196 points)

Junior Max (provisional): Kush Maini (Dark Don Racing) 1; Ricky Donison (BFC Racing) 2; Aaroh Ravindra (Rayo Racing) 3. Championship winner: Donison (183 points).

Senior Max: Chittesh Mandody (Mohite’s Racing) 1; Nayan Chatterjee (Rayo Racing) 2; Dhruv Mohite (Mohite’s Racing) 3. Championship winner: Ameya Bafna (Rayo Racing, 181 points).

Pre-Finals – Micro Max: Yash Aradhya 1, Arun S Nair 2, Chirag Gorphade 3. Junior Max: Ricky Donison 1, Aaroh Ravindra 2, Akash Gowda 3. Senior Max: Dhruv Mohite 1, Chittesh Mandody 2, Ameya Bafna 3.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Kolhapur’s Chittesh Mandody and Bengaluru lads Kush Maini and Yash Aradhya set the V-1 Track alight by dominating the heats to take pole positions in the fifth and concluding round of the 11th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship, here on Saturday. The Pre-Finals, followed by the Finals, are scheduled for Sunday.

Aradhya of MECO Racing, heading the Micro Max leaderboard, put in a fine performance to win both the Heats and qualify for pole position ahead of fellow-Bengalureans and team-mates Arjun S Nair and Paul Francis.

Mandody (Mohite’s Racing), lying tied third in the Senior Max category championship, all but destroyed the field to win both the heats in a commanding fashion to qualify for pole position.

Occupying the second spot behind Mandody in Sunday’s Pre-Finals will be championship leader Ameya Bafna (Rayo Racing) from Mumbai while Kolhapur’s Dhruv Mohite (Mohite’s Racing) will start third.

Maini of Dark Don Racing, aided by pain-killers, braved a sprained muscle on his right arm following a crash during Friday’s practice and also dominated the two Heats in the Junior Max category where he is trailing championship leader and fellow-Bengalurean Ricky Donison by four points.

“The doctor actually advised me not to race, but I decided to go ahead by taking pain-killers. It does hurt, but otherwise, I am ok,” said Maini who will be chased by Donison (BPC Racing) and Mumbai’s Aaroh Ravindra (Rayo Racing) on the Pre-Finals grid.

The V-1 track located on the outskirts of this port city and hosting the mega event for the first time, proved rather bumpy and very physical, but the attributes only added to the challenge.

Micro Max: Yash Aradhya (MECO Racing) 1, Arjun S Nair (MECO Racing) 2, Paul Francis (MECO Racing) 3. Junior Max: Kush Maini (Dark Don Racing) 1, Ricky Donison (BPC Racing) 2, Aaroh Ravindra (Rayo Racing) 3. • Kari Motor Speedway all set for JK Tyre Drag Nationals

Coimbatore, August 27, 2014: When the lights turn green, it is a dash to the finish between two cars or bikes in drag racing. These fantastic duels will be what motor racing fans will get to see when the first two rounds of the JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National Drag Racing Championship 2014 are held at the famed Kari Motor Speedway, near here, from August 28-31.

The participant needs split second reaction to get off the line as soon as the light turns green. In drag racing, one will not get a chance again like in track racing where there is always the next corner or lap to overtake. The operative part is 402 metres, or the quartermile, for which the vehicles will be timed.

The event is being conducted by Spitfire Motorsports Pvt. Ltd. (Coimbatore) in association with Speedway Motorsports (Hyderabad). The practice sessions will be on Thursday and Saturday for the first and second rounds respectively, while the two rounds of the championship will be conducted on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, an autocross event will be held and many of the vehicles entered for the drag races are also expected to participate.

Naturally, the glamour quotient will be there with all the big cars and bikes assembling from places like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Madurai, Tuticorin, Nagercoil and from Kerala. The big boys among the four wheelers that will be seen in action are the Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Mercedes SLK, Audi R8 and Porsche. Among the two-wheelers, the attractions will be the machines from BMW, Yamaha, Honda and others. The bikes will race in the morning session, while the big cars will be seen in action in the post-lunch session.

The prominent names in the fray for top honours include Hyderabad racers Prabhu (four-wheeler Open champion) and Arun (four-wheeler Indian Open and Foreign class champion) and Bangalore’s Khalim Pasha (champion last year in the Indian Open and imported bikes categories) among others. About 250 entries are expected for each round in the two and four-wheeler classes, while about 150 are expected for the autocross event. The entries have been kept open till Thursday.

The cars and bikes can take part in the Open or Championship event. The participants for the Championship event will be considered for the National Championship titles. For the Indian Open championship, the vehicles have to be Indian with Indian engines. In the Unrestricted class, it is open to Indian cars with foreign engines, foreign cars, Specials, single seaters and non-production vehicles. For bikes in the Unrestricted class, participants can use Indian bikes with foreign engines, foreign bikes and Specials (internal combustion engines only).

  • Mahadik, Aradhya, Donison emerge JK Tyre Karting Nationals 2nd round champs

Hyderabad, 27 July 2014: Krishnaraaj Mahadik of Mohites Racing, Kolhapur drove an aggressive race to upstage his more illustrious teammates and emerge winner in the Senior Max category of the 11th JK Tyre-FMSC National Rotax Max Karting Championship’s second 2nd round and leapfrog to the top of the points table at the Airport Karting track, Hyderabad on Sunday.

After two rounds, Mahadik is leading the championship points table with 71 points, followed by Ameya Bafna of Rayo Racing with 69 and Vishnu Prasad of Meco Racing tied with Dhruv Mohite on 65.

The Junior Max category saw a renewed tough battle between Ricky R Donison of BPC Racing and Kush Maini of Dark Don Racing. Maini was leading throughout the race, before Donison, displaying superb control and composure squeezed past at the last corner to take the chequered flag. Aaroh Ravindra also flew past a rattled Maini, who had to settle for third place.

Maini, however, can take solace from the fact that he is leading the points tally with 73, followed by Aaroh Ravindra and Akash Gowda (both Meco Racing) on 71.

The Micro Max category also saw a close battle between Meco Racing teammates Yash Aradhya and Shahan Ali Mohsin, before the 11-year-old Yash prevailed for his second back to back victory. Chirag Ghorpade of BPC celebrated his ninth birthday in style, finishing in third place.

However, Shahan’s second place finishes in the pre-final and the final races saw him go to the top of the points table with 75, followed by Yash on 73 and Paul Francis on 72.

Yash Aradhya, who was a little slower on the start and was trailing Shahan initially was elated with his second win on the trot and said, “I pressed the throttle a little later than Shahan and hence slipped into second spot. I planned to take him on the next corner but after two more corners I got the lead and then just aimed to keep safe.”

Mahadik, starting the race in in sixth position was off in a flash when the green flag was waved, moving into second place behind teammate Chittesh Mandody, the pre-final winner. Keeping the pressure on Mandody through the tight corners, Mahadik forced Mandody to crash out in the 10th lap, after which it was a one-horse race, with the battle for second and third spot hotting up between Dhruv Mohite, Vishnu Prasad and Nayan Chatterjee. Mohite was no match for the canny Vishnu and the determined Chatterjee, who finished second and third respectively.

“I struggled a lot with my car. Was not there in the race in the initial stages, but later pulled it through,” said Mahadik

Donison and Maini, placed one and two on the grid, were quickly into the thick of things at the flag off, roaring around the corners in their quest to outdo each other. Though Donison did manage to wrest the lead for short periods a couple of times, it was Maini who led for prolonged periods. It was the relentless pressure kept up by Donison that seemed to have finally unsettled Maini and at the last corner, Maini seemed to be standing still as Donison charged past, followed closely by Ravindra.

“I started second after Kush Maini and it was really a tough race. He made a move in the first corner and then he started defending very well. I couldn’t get past him through I tried very hard. In last corner I saw a gap and I went for it,” said Donison after his hard fought win.
