Jorge Martin wins Indian GP’s first Tissot Sprint Race
New Delhi, 23 Sept. 2023: Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing won the Tissot Sprint Race in the MotoGP class of the Indian Oil Grand Prix of India at the Buddh Interational Circuit in Greater Noida here on Saturday.
Marco Bezzecchi of Mooney VR46 Racing Team took pole position for Sunday’s race, while Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing will start second and Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team will start third on the grid.
Stefan Bradl, Luca Marini and Pol Espargaro crashed at the start of the race, with Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing taking over the lead. Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team was second, while Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez was third. Brad Binder of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing was in fourth place.

The gap between the riders was pretty much consistent as the race wore on. But soon after, Marquez and Binder got into a battle to make a claim for the third place, but the positions did not change as Martin took victory in the Tissot Sprint Race.
Though the temperature and humidity remained high, there was rain in the afternoon that brought proceedings to a halt during the Moto3 qualifying Number One. After a delay of about 45 minutes and the safety car making laps of the track, action resumed at 2:35 pm.

He was followed by Brad Binder and Takagi Nakagami.

In the first qualifying session for Moto2, Zonta Van Den Goorbergh of Fieten Olie Racing GP topped the charts with a time of 02:02:6140, while Sergio Garcia of Pons Wegow Los40 made it to the second spot with 02:02:9590 and Barry Baltus of Fieten Olie Racing GP was third with 02:03:1110. In the second qualifying session, Jake Dixon of GASGAS Aspar Team was first with a time of 02:01:9240, Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Ajo was second with 02:01:9560 and Sergio Garcia of Pons Wegow Los40 was third with 02:02:1920.
In the first qualifying session for Moto3, Deniz Oncu of Red Bull KTM Ajo topped the timecharts with a time of 1:59:0700, while Ryusei Yamanaka clocked 1:59:9300 and Scott Ogden of the Vision VisionTrack Racing Team timed 1:59:9690. In the second qualifying session, Jaume Masia timed 02:09:3360, while Matteo Bartelle registered 02:10:0630 and Ayumu Sasaki of the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP was third at 02:10:1040.
Marc Marquez – Photo by Srinivasa Krishnan Earlier, Diogo Moreira of MT Helmets-MSI topped the third practice session in Moto3 with a top time of 1:59:3750, while Manuel Gonzalez of the Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Team topped the Moto2 third free practice with a time of 01:51:6080. In the MotoGP free practice session two, Marco Bezzecchi of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team topped with a time of 01:45:3980.
The first corner was deemed to be tricky by the riders. Even a bit of delay in braking would result in a disaster as several riders had already suffered crashes there.
Mike Webb, race director said, “Due to the feedback from the teams and riders and considering the heat and humidity, the race distances will be shortened.”
The Tissot Sprint race was of 11 laps, while the Moto3 will be of 16 laps, the Moto2 will be 18 laps and the MotoGP will be 21 laps.

Moto3: Veijer top, Masia on the chase as the only two under the two-minute barrier
Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) found an extra gear in the second session of action at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India as he went top to lead the way with a 1:59.566. The Dutch rookie was the first rider to break the 2-minute barrier and put in consistent laps on his own to chip away at the benchmark time. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) was looking as strong as ever as he joined the Dutchman as the only other rider in the 1:59 club though, just +0186s shy of the top, with Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) rounded out the top three after keeping himself consistently in the top half of the timing sheets.
Despite taking a tumble, David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar Team) had another strong showing to take P4 on day 1, and having taken three wins in the last four races, you can bet the rookie will be a force to be reckoned with come Sunday. Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounded out the top five ahead of the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets-MSI).
Second in the Championship, Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) bagged P7 to kick off day 1 of the flyaway run, with rookie Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team), and title contender Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) rounding out the top 10.
It was a tougher start to the weekend for the Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3). The Spaniard suffered an off towards the end of the session and finished the day in P13 with the all-important Q2 spots up for grabs on Saturday…

Luca Marini tops FP2 as India makes its historic debut in MotoGP as a new venue
New Delhi, 22 Sept. 2023: India became a new venue for the World Motorcycle Racing Championship. As BIC hosted the MotoGP practice sessions on this historic Friday, India joined a select club of Nations that have hosted MotoGP.
History made! Just 0.008 splits Marini and Martin as MotoGP™ debuts in India. The duo are split by almost nothing as Aleix Espargaro sits just 0.051 off the top in third and Marc Marquez slots into P4.
The conditions were sweltering but the riders made the most of it and tried to put up their best performance on the practice day of the IndianOil Grand Prix of India at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida on Friday.
In the premier MotoGP category, it was a bit of a surprise as Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing team) topped the second practice session with a time of 1:44:782, while rising star Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) recorded 1:44:790. Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia Racing clocked 1:44:833.

Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team was sixth, while Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Fabio Quartararo was in eighth position.
Marc Marquez said: “When we arrive at a new track it’s true that I am able to quickly find the limit of the track. From FP1 I was there and in FP2 we were able to stay there even if we lost a little bit of margin as the overall grip came up. But finally, we were able to get a spot in Q2, which is the target, but I think many riders will make a step tomorrow. The front three rows of the grid and the objective for tomorrow and then let’s see what happens in the Sprint. The heat here is different to at other tracks but I don’t think it will be a big issue for tomorrow, for the long race on Sunday we will have to see.”
Fabio Quartararo said: The day didn‘t start super good. I only completed about nine laps in the morning, so to learn this difficult track in the afternoon was not easy. Physically the track is not very tough, it‘s just the heat. I had to get straight into the game, and we achieved our goal of getting straight into Q2, so it was a pretty good day. Hopefully we can fight for a spot on the front three rows tomorrow and fight for a great result in the Sprint.

India’s Kadai Yashin Ahmed suffered a crash during the second free practice session.

Earlier, in the first free practice session for Moto3, Jaume Masia of Leopard Racing, with a timing of 02:00:324 was the fastest. He was followed by Diogo Moreira of MT Helmets with a time of 02:00:465, while Stefano Nepa of Angeluss MTA Team was third with 02:00:615 minutes.
Meanwhile, spiritual guru Sadhguru took a few laps of the Buddh International Circuit before the start of the day’s action.
Saturday will have the free practice three, qualifying and the Tissot Sprint race for the MotoGP class.

New Delhi, September 22, 2023: Renowned Indian Yogi, mystic and visionary Sadhguru took an exciting inauguration lap at the Buddh International Circuit on Friday ahead of the IndianOil Grand Prix of India.
Sadhguru’s passion for motorcycles is as undiminished today as it was during his college years and he recalled how his motorbike often served as much more than just a vehicle while riding a lap at the race track.

He added, “I got license just after my 18th birthday, so, for me motorcycle has not just been a transport, not even a sport, it has been kind of freedom to go across the country. I have ridden across India many times and my bike was not like these superbikes, it was the 250cc, single-cylinder bike but I did not ride to any destination as I just enjoyed the scenery and the beauty of the country.”

10 days to go: MotoGP India all set to produce top speeds
New Delhi, 12 Sept. 2023: The excitement is building up as the inaugural MotoGP Bharat is just about 10 days away and motorsport fans across the globe are waiting with bated breaths to witness the race at the track that hosted three Formula One races about a decade ago.
The MotoGP Bharat will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Gautam Buddh Nagar from September 22-24. The homologation process has been completed and certain modifications have been made to make it suitable for mototrycle racing.
However, one of the most exciting prospects is that the top speed could touch 370 Kmph. This year, Brad Binder of Red Bull KTM set the high-speed record at 366.1 Kmph. This new expected top speed of 370 Kmph is due to the long back straight, measuring 1006 metres. This straight stretch is divided into two parts – the first segment is downhill, that will allow the riders to achieve maximum acceleration, while the latter part, which is uphill, will enable them to brake late and maintain top speed.
Amit Sandill, Director Racing, Fairstreet Sports, said, “MotoGP Bharat is poised to redefine speed in the world of motorcycle racing. The Buddh International Circuit has undergone remarkable modifications, and it will be breathtaking to see the riders achieve mind boggling speeds.”
The parabola or the stadium section at turns 9 and 10, is the perfect camber for riders to slingshot out of the turns and permits them to push their bikes to the limit. The track’s surface gives exceptional grip to the tyres, offering riders complete control over their machines. Meanwhile, safety measures have been bolstered with the installation of 1800 metres of new safety barricading.
Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Sporting Officer of Dorna Sports, added, “The changes made to the Buddh International Circuit are truly remarkable. This track now stands witness to India’s commitment to hosting world-class motorsport events. We believe the circuit has the potential to register speed that could rewrite the MotoGP record books.”
With a track that is flowing, fast, and includes 13 challenging turns (8 right and 5 left), the race promises to be full of action.

Last-minute preparations at BIC to host MotoGP Bharat, get a boost from Dorna visit
New Delhi, May 26, 2023: The entry of MotoGP is all set materialise with preparations in full swing at the iconic Buddh International Circuit which hosted the Formula One Championship for three years from 2011. It is said that the visiting Dorna team was fairly satisfied with the progress being made towards fine-tuning the last minute preparations for the Motorcycle World Championships, MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3.
The highly-anticipated Motorcylce World Championship race in India is titled as ‘MotoGP Bharat’ and is scheduled for September 22 to 24.
On Friday, Fairstreet announced that a 12-member team from the global MotoGP commercial rights holder, Dorna Sports, led by Events Director, Norma Luna, conducted a visit to check and identify facilities that needs to be fine tuned. The team also comprised officials of MotoGP marketing and sponsorship teams and one of the important factors that Dorna supervised in detail included the Broadcasting and Media facilities that are central to any World- Class event.
The recently-concluded visit is an reconnaissance trip to India to assess whether race preparations are meeting the given deadlines as per the MotoGP Promoter Dorna’s agreed regulations. Fairstreet Sports is the Indian Promoter but the facility, the BIC is owned by a different party, the JP group which is legal battles and one need to see, if the return of an international event, to the top-class motorsports facility designed by German Hermann Tilke, an engineer, race driver and designer, who designed many circuits across the world.
Luna was accompanied by Daniel Trujillo (Technical Director), Enrique Aguilar (Live Coverage Director) among others. The team meticulously surveyed the circuit to evaluate various technical aspects. They inspected the broadcast setup facilities and assessed various other essential requirements for delivering a world-class event. However, the event passed off without any media presence and there is no announcement from Dorna.
FairStreet Sports COO, Pushkar Nath Srivastava, is confident in the venue’s ability to put up country’s biggest annual sporting spectacle . He said: “With less than 124 days for the mega event, we had some important operational discussions as well as detailed marketing, branding, sponsorship and conversations related to the broadcast of the race. It is heartening to see how important MotoGP Bharat is from the global perspective as well as for us, the Indian stakeholders alongside the government.”
A big part of hosting MotoGP is also to showcase their tourism potential and during their visit, the Dorna team also had the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most iconic landmarks and the Pride of Uttar Pradesh, the Taj Mahal. Located at just a two-hour drive from the racetrack, the team was captivated by the Taj’s grandeur and left in awe.
MotoGP Bharat will not only encourage diverse range of fans to come and witness the onsite marvels but also explore the unique milieu of rich culture, heritage and history.
Srivastava further added, “We anticipate a significant boost to the tourism industry, and this event is poised to unlock tremendous investment opportunities for the state of Uttar Pradesh.”
Scheduled as 13th race on the calendar, India will see 42 teams and 84 riders in action across MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 categories. It will include names like Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati, Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda Team, Marco Bezzecchi of Mooney, Brad Binder and Jack Miller of Redbull, Jorge Martin of Prima, all set to hit the Indian soil soon.

X1 league round 2 at MMRT on Dec 8
Chennai, 12 Nov 2019: About 30 top drivers, representing a city each, will take part in the inaugural edition of the motorsports league to be held at Delhi and Chennai this year.
The X1 Racing League will have about 30 drivers from across the world available for bidding by six franchises, before the league starts on November 30 and ends on December 1. The six franchises are from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.
The X1 Racing League, a franchise-based motorsports competition will have six teams representing a city each. Son of legendary F1 driver Niki Lauda, Mathias was picked by the Delhi franchise (AD Racing) while India’s Arjun Maini and Gaurav Gill will race for Bengaluru (Bangalore Racing Stars) and Delhi teams respectively. The league is powered by JK Tyre Motorsports.
The league will be held between November 30-December 1 in New Delhi at the Buddh International Circuit and December 7-8 in Chennai at the Madras Motor Race Track. There will be four drivers and two cars in each team. Of the four drivers in each team there will be one international male, one international female, one India international and domestic racer. Of the two domestic racers picked in each team one will get to represent the franchise. Each race will last for 30 minutes and will have three unique team-based race formats per day.
Team Hyderabad (Blackbirds Hyderabad) was the first to pick in the draft which started off with India’s International racers in the first round, they chose Akhil Rabindra. The next to pick was Team Bengaluru who chose Arjun Maini after which Team Mumbai (Mumbai Falcons) went on to choose Arjun’s brother Khush Maini. The others picked in the round were Krishna Mahadik by Team Ahmedabad (DG Racing), Gill by Team Delhi and Chennai team (NK Racing) auto-picked their team owner Narain Karthikeyan.
In the male international racers draft, Bengaluru was the first pick and chose English racer Oliver James Webb. The other male international racers who were picked in the draft include Malaysian F1 driver Alex Yoong by Ahmedabad, Mathias joined Delhi franchise, China’s Frankie Cheng went to the Chennai team, former F1 racer Tonio Luizzi by Hyderabad and Danish racer Mikkel Jensen by Mumbai.
As both male and female drivers would be racing against each other, it was important for each franchise to make sure they had a strong female driver as well. The first female international racer to be picked was Denmark’s Michelle Gatting by Bengaluru. While, English racers Pippa Mann and Alice Powell joined Mumbai and Chennai respectively, Switzerland’s Rahel Frey went to Ahemedabad, Denmark’s Christina Neilsen to Delhi and Polish racer Gosia Rdest to Hyderabad.
The domestic racers who will be part of the action include Arjun Balu and Yash Aradhya for Chennai, Raghul Rangaswamy and Ashwin Datta for Delhi, Chittesh Mandody and Ameya Walavalkar for Ahmedabad, Sohil Shah and Karthik Tharanisingh for Mumbai, Nayan Chatterjee and Vishnu Prasad for Bengaluru and Arjun Narendran and Anindth Reddy for Hyderabad.
“All teams are equally balanced and look strong. As all the cars are of the same make, it will be up to the drivers to show their skills and win the race for their team. We hope that the best team wins the league. We are happy with how the draft concluded and the owners are also happy with their teams. We can’t wait for racing to begin,” said co-founder of X1 Racing, Armaan Ebrahim.
“Some of our domestic Indian drivers will get a chance to rub shoulders with the best of the best. This a chance for the domestic racers who were picked in the draft to make it to the next level and prove themselves against other established International driver. I hope they come out on top,” said co-founder of X1 Racing, Aditya Patel.
The X1 Racing League follows the X1 Racing eSports Racing season 1, a digital-simulator based racing competition that is currently being held in cities across India. The eSports competition was created by X1 Racing in a bid to tap out talent from different strata of the society and also increase the fan following for motorsport in the country.

TVS, Honda support races for Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing
Buddh Nagar (near New Delhi), 20 March 2014: Former Moto 3 rider Sarath Kumar will lead the charge of 80 riders as the 2014 FMSCI-MMSC Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship gets underway for the TVS & Honda One Make Championships at the Buddh International Circuit this weekend. Both Honda CBR 250R and TVS APACHE RTR 180 categories will be the support races for the exciting new Tata T1 PRIMA Truck Racing Championship.
The MMSC INMRC will feature two races from each category. The TVS Apache RTR 180 will have the Open and Novice class while Honda will have the CBR150R Novice class and CBR250R Open class. Some of India’s top riders including Sarath Kumar, Sumit Lucas Toppo, A Prabhu, Mathana Kumar and a host of other riders will be taking part in this weekend’s races.
For the first time the MMSC-INMRC will also see riders hailing from different parts of the country with riders from Ahmadabad, Chandigrah, Faridabad, Patna, Madurai, Chennai, Hyderabad all competing. This is only the second time that Motorcycle racing will take place at the BIC after MMSC hosted a Round of the INMRC last September.
Vicky Chandhok, Chairman of the Event, commented, “We are extremely pleased to be promoters of India’s first ever Truck racing championship. Having the TVS and Honda One Make Championships support the truck races promises a great weekend of motorsport for all fans. We have one of the biggest grids this year with riders from all over the country including Dehradun, Ranchi, Amritsar, Delhi etc. Honda and TVS are two important partners for us along with Yamaha, who are helping us reach out to young riders from different parts of the country.”
TVS and Honda are no strangers to Two-wheeler racing in India, promoting the sport in a big way. TVS have a long association with Indian motorsport in Racing and Motorcross events. Honda have also played a role in helping youngsters race internationally with 3-4 Indians participating in the Honda Asia Dream Cup last year and confirming their participation for this year as well.
Qualifying will take place tomorrow while races will be held on Saturday and Sunday morning.

It is like entering a magical arena, full of mystique, with promises of wondrous surprises. It’s that place on a circuit, where people disappear to – you know the ones who belong to the world of F-1.
So, when IndiainF1.com decided to pack me off to the Buddh International Circuit as their media representative, I hopped around like an excitable bunny ODing on carrots. You can’t blame me. I run a blog, and blogs don’t really go down well with the folks over at F1. I always thought accreditation was going to be a dream.
So on Thursday, I drove up to the circuit, blinking through the haze, searching for MAC. Not the cosmetic company! The Media Accreditation Centre. Keep up folks! The car bounced over muddy, undulating terrain, snuck past a tractor and entered the Site Office. It was choc-a-bloc. I hopped out and scampered in to take my pass.
Fast forward to Friday. A fancy-schmancy media shuttle dropped me to the Paddock and there I was. There it was.
