Rajendra bags overall honours; Aishwarya begins campign in style
Hosapete, 17 October 2021: 2019 National champion Rajendra RE of Team TVS Racing won the feature event and the overall honours and 2019 World Cup Baja winner Aishwarya Pissay as they led Team TVS Racing sweep in Rally de Hampi, the first Round of the MRF Mogrip fmsci National Rally Championship for bikes (2w) 2021, the final event of the Utsav de Hampi 2021, here on Sunday.
Defending champion in the top Pro-Expert class Nataraj of TVS Racing suffered a DNF (did not finish). Pune mariner Ashish Raorane, could only come 4th in the Expert class, but his very presence here gave a chance to the fans to watch a Dakar hero and his super machine. “It is like training for a marathon and coming for sprint. But is a rear op for our fans to watch our heroes,’’ said a veteran motorsport enthusiast, Rohit of the organising club, Motorsports Academy of Vijayanagar, about Ashish, who is one among the two confirmed for Dakar 2022 in Saudi Arabia next January along with Kerala’s Harith Noah.
Making a clean sweep of the top-four places in the overall honours and winning every class they entered, the Hosur-based 2-wheeler tyre specialists, TVS Racing, made their speed statement in style on the dirt tracks around the Hampi heritage region in the first round supported by Karnataka Tourism, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, TVS Apache and Hotel Royal Orchid.

2019 Champion Rajendra RE of TVS Racing who won the overall honours in Round 1 of the MRF Mogrip National Rally Championship 2w 2021 at Hosapete on Sunday. Sarath Mohan, a privateer from Mallapuram, won the Expert class while another Kerala rider Ajin Abraham clinched the gold in the Super Sport 130cc Group B class. Coimbatore riders Sasikumar (165cc), and veteran biker and Riders’ representative Venu Ramesh Kumar (400cc), also took the top spot on the podium in their respective classes. Samuel Jacob, Mohammed Zaheer won gold in their classes while Nadeem Ahmed became the Star of Karnataka, the support race.
The Bike Rally Nationals promoted by GodSpeed Racing are scheduled to run five more rounds for the 2021 championship.

Nostalgic Nazir Hoosein memorial drive brings Himalayan fraternity together
New Delhi, October 16: Two years into a pandemic that has brought the world to a grinding halt, nostalgia is the one thing that has endured. With systems slowly coming back to normal and sporting events slowly finding their feet in a new landscape, a desire to travel, relive and experience the great outdoors has never been more palpable. Motorsports in India is slowly getting back in gear, with events lining up for a new season and kicking things off is one that is as much rooted in the past as it is a signifier of the way ahead.
The Nazir Hoosein Memorial Drive by Team Firefox was officially launched today in a virtual press conference with former winners, participants and dignitaries sharing their memories of an event and a pioneer who reshaped Indian motorsport.
“Once we saw things slowly opening up, some of us involved with the motorsport community decided that we should do a drive, something to hark back the good times,” Rajan Syal said. “That idea snowballed into doing something to commemorate Nazir Hoosein.”
Hoosein was a founder member of his club, the Indian Automotive Racing Club (IARC) and was former President of the Federation of MotorSport Clubs of India (FMSCI) in 1984/85. While his pioneering administrative work paved the way for many motorsport enthusiasts in the country, Hoosein is perhaps most fondly remembered for founding an event that reshaped Indian motorsport — the Himalayan Rally.
Hoosein’s original desire, that the event showcase Indian motorsport as well as the diaspora of the country remains the driving motivation behind this memorial event too. Gaurav Gill, a multiple time FIA Asia Pacific Rally champion remembers the Himalayan Rally shaping his interest in motorsport in his formative years. “I heard about it as a young child and it really drove my passion for rallying. I am very happy to see this tribute to the iconic rally route in the Himalayas seeing such good participation and look forward to its great success.”
The first edition, held in 1980 was based on a safari rally format. Since then the concept stuck, with international participants supporting the format and the course itself. The Himalayan Rally would form the spine of the Indian motorscape in the 80s, and winners — most notably Jayant Shah — often turning into overnight celebrities in the country.
“Nazir was a man of vision, and the Himalayan Rally brought international rallying to India,” Farokh Commissariat said. “This year we also celebrate the 50th year of the IARC and it is fitting that the rally will allow us to pay tribute to him in a manner deserving of his stature.”
NHMD will follow the original route from the 1981 edition, with a 100 car field kicking off from Greater Noida on November 8th. The first stop will be Lansdowne (8th), followed by Mussoorie (9th) and Kufri (10th). On the 11th, drivers will tackle the iconic route of the original rally — the Jalori Pass before halting in Manali. The final day will see participants cross over the Rohtang pass before concluding the drive in Manali. “The idea was to recreate the original route, for various reasons. In 40 years, a lot of the landscape has changed, and it will be interesting for former participants as well as fans to experience it,” Syal said.
“I am delighted to be part of this wonderful tribute to Mr Nazeer Hoosein,” Mohan Nagarajan, Chairman Sidvin Energy Engineering said. “Going back and tracing the iconic Himalayan Rally route will be a wonderful experience not just for me but for all members of the motorsports community of India.” -

Razgatlioglu celebrates birthday in style, wins Race 1
San Juan, 16 October 2021: The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship descended on the Circuito San Juan Villicum for the Motul Argentinean Round and it was Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) who claimed Race 1 honours after a 21-lap encounter after transferring his scintillating Friday pace into Saturday action, claiming the 50th podium of his career on his 25th birthday.
Both Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), decorated in a special 1990s livery to mark a special anniversary for Kawasaki, got quick starts from second and fifth on the grid respectively to lead the race into Turn 1, while polesitter Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) found himself on the ground at Turn 1 after crashing, with the Briton falling to the back of the grid.
Out in front and Rea had put pressure on Razgatlioglu for the lead of the race before the Championship leader opened up the gap to Rea to just over three seconds at the end of Lap 8, with the pair holding station until the end of the race. Razgatlioglu’s win meant he claimed the 50th podium of his career while Yamaha claimed their first podium at San Juan Villicum. Rea’s second place meant he claimed Great Britain’s 810th podium, while it was only the second time Rea has not won at the Argentinean venue.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) claimed the tenth podium of his WorldSBK career with third place after passing Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) at around half-distance of the race. Bassani had started from the front row for the first time in his WorldSBK career but fell back at the start before fighting back into third, before Rinaldi was able to pass him. Aman, Aishwarya, Ashishrao Rane descend on Hampi
Hampi, 14 October 2021: Himalayan Hero Aman Prabhakar Pawde of Nagpur, the inaugural Overall winner of the Rally of Himalayas astride a KTM EXCF450, along with FIM World Cupper Aishwarya Pissay, who made a triumphant comeback after an injury-layoff, Dakar Indian Ashishrao Rane will spearhead the challenge at Rally de Hampi, the first Round of the fmsci MRF Mogrip National Rally Championship 2021 for 2-wheelers, the final event of the Utsav de Hampi 2021, here on Sunday.
Prominent international Cross Country rider Ashishrao Rane of Pune, will be the cynosure of all eyes as he makes a rare appearance in the Indian rally circuit. The Dakar rider could not go to Rallye du Maroc last week but will be looking to get back to form for the toughest rally in the world next year.
“Organised by Motorsports Academy of Vijayanagar and enthusiastically backed by Karnataka Tourism, the record number of 81 entries from all over the country and their team members will enjoy the scenic sights, in the true spirit of “One State, Many Worlds,” that Karnataka heritage sites and the rally route offers. The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), TVS Apache and hospitality partners Hotel Royal Orchid have joined with title sponsor MRF to make the two-wheeler National championship an attractive affair to both the riders and the fans as well,” said Promoter Shyam Kothari, a 7-time National champ in three different motorsports disciplines. Kothari heads GodSpeed Racing, the promoters of the 6-round INRC 2w Nationals and Supercross Nationals.
Four-time successive National 2w Rally champion in the women’s category, Miss Pissay, of TVS Racing, is the 2019 FIM World Cup Baja champion but her 2021 WC campaign came to an abrupt halt due to a major incident at the Baja last March but the gritty champion recovered from multiple surgeries and is back to her winning ways beating many ‘Big Boys’ on the foothills of Himalayas last Sunday for a creditable Overall fifth among 75 bikers and a sweet victory in her own class. Apart from the 8 girls, Pissay on her TVS Apache RTR will be eyeing the INRC Overall honours as she prepares to get back to the tougher international cross-country rallies. “After seven months, I was raring to get back into true competition mode and I feel better now after the Himalayan rally and hope to begin my fifth season on a positive note,” said the 7-time racing and rally National champ.
Team TVS Racing will be descending, as usual, with three other defending National champions R Nataraj, Samuel Sajan Jacob and Pinkesh Thakur. R Natarajan will have to do with teammates Rajendra RE, who won the last round here in Hampi and Abdul Waheed Tanveer, who missed the Rallye Maroc. Though there are only three entries in the Group A, the Super Bike Pro-Expert class is expected to have tough competition among the three TVS wards, all on TVS Apache RTR.
Team Hero MotoSports’ Yuva Kumar of Bengaluru and Sathyaraj Arumugam of Coimbatore along with other National champions Kochi’s Sinan Francis, Asad Khan (Chikmagalur), Jatin Jain (Nagpur), Badal Doshi (Vashi), Sachin D (TVS Hosur) racing champion Ryhana Bee (Chennai) and youngster Tanika Shanbag (Satara), who showed a glimpse of her rally prowess at the Himalayas, will all be raring to go in the other classes. Karthik, Syed Asif Ali of TVS Racing and Elango of Erode will fight in the Scooter class.
“This is the first round of the National 2w rally championship. All safety aspects are taken care of with trained marshals and, safety officers will make sure that all COVID19 protocols are strictly adhered to. Doctors and ambulances will be on standby along with a dedicated team of HAMs. I wish all the participants a safe rally,” said GS Joshy, the Clerk of the Course (CoC) and a rally champion himself. He will be ably assisted by home club’s Deputy CoC Rohit Gowda, another noted rider of yesteryears.
“The rally consists of five Special Stages (SS) of 57.85km, which are held on roads closed to traffic. There will be two physical stages, Jumbo and Hampi, 12.05km and 10.8km long, respectively. While Jumbo is run thrice, the riders will take the dirt track of Hampi SS, twice, all in the forward direction, for an overall distance of 115.42 kms including a liaison or transport section of 57.57 kms,” said Santosh HM of Motorsports Academy of Vijayanagar, the organising club. Bhaskar Gupta, CK Chinnappa and Abhijeet Pai will be the stewards (judges). Anagha J Bharadwaj will be the Secretary of the Meet.
The Star of Karnataka with five entries will be a support class. Following are the Championship classes where winners will get a trophy and split prize money of around Rs.2 lakh. More importantly they garner championship points and the table toppers in the below classes will be declared National champions.

Harith Noah successfully completes Rally of Morocco
Zagora, 13 October 2021: Ace Indian rider KN Harith Noah successfully completed the tough Rallye du Maroc after finishing the last stage 23rd, for a creditable overall 20th to brush aside his rustiness and start preparations for Dakar 2022 in right earnest. The Kerala rider, who became the top-Indian finisher in Dakar, is backed by Sherco TVS factory team. Noah clocked 19hours, 05minutes and 31seconds for the overall timing with a 1:52:11sec in the shortened fifth stage, just 12:59sec off the leader P Quintanilla of Monster Energy Honda team.
Meanwhile, despite this last stage being shortened for logistical reasons, it was no stroll in park ! The profile of this final loop resembled that of the first stage with the same start and finishing point. However the route through the Chegaga Erg was all new. Warned rally boss David Castera: “The rally’s not over yet. Save some strength for the end”.

In the bikes, the last 166 kms of the 2021 Rallye du Maroc went more or less as anticipated. Pablo Quintanilla (Monster Energy Honda) started third on the road this morning to win the special and with it the rally, second time out with his new team. Matthias Walkner (Red Bull KTM Factory) started 2nd kept his podium position and win the FIM World Championship. And opening the piste this morning Daniel Sanders (Gas Gas Factory) managed to limit the damage to an absolute minimum to finish third on the special and overall. All of course much easier said than done, when you have riders of the calibre of Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) ready to pounce at the slightest opportunity. In Rally2 Bradley Cox (BAS Dakar KTM) confirmed all the promise he has shown this week by winning his first ever rally raid special just 1:20 ahead of fellow rookie Mason Klein (BAS Dakar KTM) who wins the class by a more than comfortable 54:58 ahead of the Italian Paolo Lucci. In Enduro Cup Afriquia the Moroccan Amine Echiguer (KTM OCP) took yet another stage victory to win is class. Fastest Rally2 quad was Manuel Andújar (Team 7240) while in Enduro Cup Afriquia it was Axel Dutrie (Yamaha Drag’on) who takes the honours.
In the cars Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing) took his 6th Rallye du Maroc victory and with it the lead in the FIA World Cup Championship. In the T3 class for lightweight prototypes the win went to the Russian Pavel Lebedev (Moscow Rally Team). In T4, contender Michal Goczal (Energylandia) woke up to a surprise this morning, rival Aron Domzala’s CanAm (Monster Energy Can-Am) stripped down to its bare bones. Psychological warfare that appears to have paid off with, Goczal breaking his rear suspension and ‘gifting’ Domzala the class win (7th overall at 2h20:02). In Open Patrick Prot (Revival Aventures) takes the top spot while in the trucks victory goes to Gerrit Zuumond (Man TGA).
RADIO BIVOUAC
The Toyota Auto Body entered the Open class for this edition of the Rallye du Maroc to prepare for the future and carry out tyre tests under race conditions before the next Dakar. This will be the last appearance in Morocco for the two diesel powered Land Cruiser VDJ 200 Auto Body cars. They will race in T2 in Saudi Arabia in a few week’s time before retiring and giving way to the new Land Cruiser 300. Farewell to the V8 diesel.

In all those kilometres the new Toyota Hilux Gazoo Racing T1+ that was being tested by Erik Van Loon suffered zero puintures! Equipped with new 37-inch wheels, the four future official Toyota Gazoo Racing cars for the next Dakar should spend much less time stopped by the side of the track.

Resilient Aishwarya Pissay stunning show silences her critics: Rally of Himalayas
Manali, 10 October 2021: Cross Country FIM World Cup Baja winner Aishwarya Pissay, who returned to the track courageously once again, after a serious accident that saw fractures on both her wrists, silenced all her critics with stunning resilience that made the connoisseur sit-up and take notice as she beat many of the male riders to come clinch a creditable fifth place and a second on the podium in her M2 Class of 250 to 450cc bikes in the inaugural FMSCI approved Rally of Himalayas, which concluded on Sunday.
For the record, the Rally which brings back the Himalayas as a terrain after Raide de Himalayas is off the Indian rally calendar saw about 100 participants, with about 30 taking part in the bikes category won by Aman Prabhakar Pawde in 2 hours, 55 minutes and 21.100 seconds over three days of tough terrain in Kullu-Manali region.
But it was the ladies who caught the eye, and as one focuses on the South Indian lady riders, INDIAinF1 makes a special mention of the young Tanika Shanbagh, who excelled beyond expectations to finish in the top-10 in her first attempt at the mother of all rallies and one of the highest-altitude rallies in the World. Tanika Shanbagh from Satara, the daughter of former rider Sanket Shanbagh, will be looking to consolidate her new-found love from here on and if nurtured well has a bright future.
The other only lady-pair of Dr Shivani Pruthvi and co-driver Deeksha Balakrishna too successfully completed the rally beating many a male driver in the Cars section.

Valtteri Bottas first win of the season limits damage to Hamilton
Valtteri Bottas took his first win of the season at the Turkish Grand Prix as Max Verstappen finished P2 for a second consecutive race and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez took his first podium since the French Grand Prix. Verstappen assumed championship lead as title rival Lewis Hamilton finished in P5. Bottas defended stoutly and his win reduced Verstappen’s probable lead over teammate Hamilton.
London, 12 October 2021: Valtteri Bottas won a race for the first time since last season’s Russian Grand Prix over a year ago as Max Verstappen finished P2 and teammate Sergio Perez made it a double podium for the Austrian squad. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished in P4 after running the majority of race in podium positions, ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton who started P11 due to a change in his internal combustion engine. Pierre Gasly crossed the line in P6 in the AlphaTauri, ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz- the Spaniard starting last as he ran a brand-new power unit. Esteban Ocon did a no-stop race to finish P10, behind Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll.
Alfa Romeo duo of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen finished P11 and P12 respectively, behind them were McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo in P13, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda in P14 and Williams’ George Russell in P15. Alpine’s Fernando Alonso suffered a first lap spin and could only recover to P16 ahead of the second Williams car of Nicholas Latifi. Sebastian Vettel was the only driver on the grid to try out slick tyres in the race as he finished in P18 ahead of the Haas duo of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin in P19 and P20 respectively.
It was a wet race day, much like last year. Bottas started on pole and had a clean getaway, in fact most of the field did so apart from Alonso and Gasly, the Frenchman tipping the Spaniard into a spin as the Alpine car dropped dead last. Later in the lap Alonso tagged Schumacher, spinning the rookie. Both Gasly and Alonso earned themselves a 5-second time penalty for their shenanigans.
Hamilton started out of place in P11 after receiving a power unit penalty. He made up two places early on with Tsunoda proving a bit tougher to overtake. By lap 8 he had moved past the Japanese driver too. Ahead, Bottas lead by around 2.5s from Verstappen who was ahead of Leclerc.
The track was drying as the rain had stopped, but it was not drying fast enough to justify putting on slick tyres as in these wet and greasy conditions the intermediate tyres would still be faster.
By now Hamilton had caught up to Perez and tried to overtake him on lap 35. But, a stern defense from the Mexican meant that Hamilton had to stay put behind the Red Bull car and also look after his own wearing intermediate tyres.
Verstappen was the first to pit of the leaders for another intermediate set of tyres. Race leader Bottas followed suit to cover the Dutchman. Meanwhile, the second Red Bull of Perez pitted on the same lap. This left Leclerc in the lead. Leclerc tried to go to the end on one set of inters but after locking up multiple times and being passed by Bottas, Ferrari decided to pit him emerging in P5 behind Hamilton who was yet to pit and Perez.
Hamilton had not pitted yet in a gamble that the track may dry out soon enough for slick tyres, but it was not to be. As him and Mercedes deliberated whether to make it to the end on a single set of intermediates, ultimately, he was called in on lap 51 as a precaution. Hamilton was evidently frustrated over team radio for losing a podium position and points to Verstappen.
In the end, the day belonged to Bottas who dominated the Turkish Grand Prix and took his first win of the season. Meanwhile, Red Bull got a double podium, boosting Perez’s confidence and Verstappen retaking the championship lead. It was a day of what could have been for Hamilton as strategy error left him down in P5.
Mercedes clearly had the dominant car this weekend in both qualifying and race pace. They locked out the front row and if not for strategic error by both Hamilton and Mercedes he could have finished the race on the podium. Red Bull struggled for pace this weekend, particularly the car suffering from a lot of understeer. A double podium is a good result given that they lacked pace to challenge Mercedes but still lost ground to them in the constructor’s championship owing to Bottas’ win.
Ferrari had the third fastest car especially in qualifying. They introduced a brand-newpower unit in the last race giving them a horsepower boost, clearly helping them in their qualifying pace. The Ferrari was even faster than Red Bull in the speed traps. They had best of the rest race pace too, with Leclerc running his own race, unchallenged by Perez for majority of the race while Sainz finished P8 from starting last. AlphaTauri showed good pace too, albeit unable to challenge Ferrari. Both cars reached Q3 with Gasly scoring points in the race and Tsunoda running in points position until he spun and dropped back in the field.
McLaren struggled to find pace in the MCL35M as Ricciardo was unable to make it out of Q1 and Norris did not have the pace to challenge the top 5 or Gasly in P6. Ricciardo was unable to follow Sainz through the field showing the struggles of McLaren at this particular track. Aston Martin showed decent pace to challenge for points and Stroll duly delivered on that. They tried a gamble of putting slick tyres on Vettel’s car but it did not work out as the track was too wet. Alpine had similar pace to Aston Martin as both teams had one car in Q3 and in points at the end of the race. Ocon made an audacious no-stop strategy work to get in the top 10 while Alonso was tagged by Gasly and spun to the back of the grid, killing his hopes for any points.
Alfa Romeo finished just outside the top 10 with Giovinazzi almost catching up to Ocon for the last points paying position. They had mediocre qualifying pace- which was in dry conditions- as neither cars were able to make it out of Q1. Williams’ points scoring streak of 4 in 5 races ended as neither Russell nor Latifi were able to challenge for the top 10 spots, lacking pace in general to do so. Haas’ Schumacher made it to Q2 for the second time, first time on legitimate pace giving the American squad confidence. They were unable to challenge for points in the race.

Harith Noah successfully completes the tough SS4
Zagora, 12 October 2021: Ace Indian rider Harith Noah from Sherco TVS team, astride an 450RTR, continued to progress successfully in Rallye du Maroc as he finished the tough Stage 4 in the FIM Group 1, in the Moto-Rally World Championship upto 450cc bikes in 20th position on Tuesday. Noah took 15minutes penalty for a total time of 17 hours, 13 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the Selective Section (SS) about 2:26min behind leader Mathias Walkner.
The ace Indian from Kerala, who finished the Dakar 2021 successfully to become the highest ranked Indian in Dakar and only third to complete the toughest cross-country rally in the world, had injured himself in one of the stages where another CS Santosh met with a bad accident that took him months to recover. Unlike Santosh, Noah was off to training in a couple of months and overcame the COVID19 travel restrictions to arrive here early and start his first and only preparation for Dakar 2022. Thus his target at Rally of Morocco is to get into the groove, fine-tune his navigation and complete the course. Thus, he is on course and has come to the final phase of the six-day competition consisting of
No major sand sections on the menu for this fourth stage. While there were a few small ergs to cross, David Castera’s team were more focused on linking new tracks to historic Dakar pistes from times gone by. This was especially the case for last 50 kilometres of the track to Foum Zguid. As Ricky Brabec discovered to his cost, navigation played a central role in today’s result.

At yesterday evening’s briefing David Castera warned competitors to take care today with the navigation when coming across rally tracks from previous days. And inevitably it was the man who opened this morning, Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) who paid the highest price. His overall lead this morning of 10:27, has this evening been transformed into a 07:34 deficit. Ricky is of course still in with a chance, but not as big a one as teammate Pablo Quintanilla. Second overall this morning at 10:27, this evening the Chilean is just 37 seconds behind leader Matthias Walkner (Red Bull KTM Factory) and will start the last day third on the road just behind the ex-Dakar winner. The Austrian will also be fighting hard for the podium, while taking care of his world championship ambitions. Winning his first stage today on his Rallye du Maroc debut, the young Australian Daniel Sanders (Gas Gas Factory Racing) will also be pushing hard to keep his podium place, his chances possibly increased by the organisers decision to shorten tomorrow’s special from 291 km to 166. Slightly less suspense in Rally2 thanks to the domination of the category by the rookie American Mason Klein (BAS Dakar KTM) who celebrates his 20th birthday today. He again won the day 6:54 ahead of Bradley Cox (BAS Dakar KTM) with Benji Melot (Esprit KTM) third at 16:30.
In the cars, for the first time since the start of the rally, someone other than Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing) won a stage, with honours going to Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota Overdrive) and his co-driver Michael Orr. Third was Jakub Przygonski (X-Raid Mini) at 02:30. It means that Nasser will start second tomorrow, perfectly positioned to keep an eye on his closest rival and protect his 11:21 lead. In T3 the overall leader Cristina Gutierrez ran into transmission problems and pulled out of the special accompanied by her Red Bull Off-Road Junior teammate Seth Quintero. T3 victory on the stage went to Pavel Lebedev (Moscow Rally Team). In T4 no less than 7 SSVs between 12th and 18th place on today’s special separated by just over 4 minutes ! And it was the rookie Lithuanian Rokas Baciuska (South Racing) who won to take his first rally raid special, just 25 seconds ahead of teammate Michal Goczal.

Back in 2014 Vanessa Ruck got knocked off her bicycle and ended up having 7 operations to rebuild her shoulder and hip. Her initial goal was to ‘get better’ and ‘pain free’. Eventually she was forced into the realisation that she’d have to lower her expectations and learn to live with the pain. By her own admission ‘it’s been a rollercoaster’, both physically and mentally. In her search for tools to help her come to terms with her new reality motorcycling turned out to be one of the most useful distractions. Like many before her she initially started on road bikes before being seduced by the adrenaline rush of riding off-road. This summer she successfully completed the Iron class of the Romaniacs. Two weeks ago she completed her first desert race, the Qatar International Baja. This week she’s racing her first rally-raid…. Something else that has helped her come to grips with her life changing injuries is visiting schools and talking to the pupils alongside her Project Dakar teammate Tim Bradshaw. Together they have tried to pass on some of the strategies they have come up with to overcome adversity #becauseican.
STAT OF THE DAY : 6
Is the record number of victories on the Rally du Maroc… and it is held by a co-driver. Frenchman Mathieu Baumel has one more victory than his team-mate Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing). If Nasser can hope to equal this record tomorrow by winning his 6th crown in Morocco, Mathieu will inevitably receive his 7th. Unless the Gazoo Racing driver pushes him out of the cockpit before the finish line ! For Mathieu, who won in 2011 with Bernhard Ten Brinke (Mitsubishi), it will be the 10th anniversary of his first victory. Among the drivers, Nasser is the most capped in the Rallye du Maroc with 5 titles in a row from 2014 to 2018. Giniel De Villiers and Cyril Despres have won 4 times while Peterhansel, Schlesser and Coma have each won 3 times.

Roller-coaster drive for Advait Deodhar in penultimate round
Zolder, 10 October 2021: The only Indian in NASCAR races, Advait Deodhar had a roller-coaster of a weekend at the penultimate round of the Euro Nascar2 Championship at Circuit Zolder in Belgium on Saturday and Sunday.
Official Practice 1 : The Indian could not take part in the official practice due to a clutch problem.
Official Practice 2 : The Indian was running in P2 overall, but the session ended with a blown engine on his #56 Ford Mustang in the final minutes. “We are still not sure what caused it, but a piston rod punched a hole in the engine. The mechanics did a remarkable job at installing a new engine over night,” Deodhar said.
QUALIFYING – The Mumbai Yachtsman came 4th in the qualifying session. “It was a close qualifying and I managed to qualify on the second row of the grid for the first race of the weekend,” he added.
Race 1 : In Race 1 he came 4th. “I managed to have a few on-track battles and ended up bringing the car home in 4th, gaining valuable Championship points.”
Race 2 : However, in Race 2, he had to limp home in a heavily damaged car in P16. It was due to three dramatic on-track incidents. “I ended up with severe damage on the car and had to limp home in P16 in order to get points, rather than retiring the car,” he explained.
“I moved up to 4th in the Championship on Saturday and am now back down in 5th after Sunday’s result,” with double points for the last round, the championship is still open.
The final round takes place on the October 30 & 31at Circuit Vallelunga in Italy. “Still there is a lot left to be gained,” he grinned.

Rajini Krishnan bounces back, double for KY Ahamed
Chennai, 10 October 2021: Ace rider Rajini Krishnan (RACR Castrol Power Racing) came into his own to script a fine win while TVS Racing’s KY Ahamed completed a double as the third round of the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2021 concluded at the MMRT, here on Sunday.
Rajini Krishnan, 41, diced with yesterday’s Race-1 winner Hyderabad’s Rahil Shetty (Gusto Racing) and Deepak Ravikumar (TVS Racing) before winning the thrilling battle in the premier Prostock 301-400cc category with less than a second covering the trio. The win, his fourth of the season from six starts, helped Rajini (118 points) to maintain his top position in the championship table with Rahil 17 points adrift.
Later, local challenger Ahamed kept his nerves to record his second win of the weekend with team-mate and defending champion Jagan Kumar delivering a 1-2 finish for TVS Racing while Rajiv Sethu (Idemitsu Honda SK69 Racing) was third. The result could have been different as early leader, Deepak Ravikumar (TVS Racing) crashed heavily exiting the last corner in the fifth lap. The result notwithstanding, Jagan continues to head the points table with 126 points, followed by Ravikumar (85), Sethu (83) and Ahamed (77).

Rajini Krishnan leads the premier Prostock 301-400cc class (118 points) Photos Anand Philar One of the top rides of the day, however, was from Chennai collegian Alwin Sundar (AS Motorsports), who started P34 and won the Novice (Stock 165cc) race, his third of the season, as did Ryhana Bee (RACR Castrol Power Racing) in the Girls (Stock 165cc) category. Sundar is currently placed second in the championship in the Novice class with 103 points to leader Anfal Akdhar’s 113. Ryhana heads the Girls table with 75 points, well clear of Mumbai’s Jagruti Penkar of Sparks Racing (45).
Riding a Yamaha R3, Rajini Krishnan brought into play his vast experience to win a tight battle with Rahil Shetty, astride a KTM 390, as the two swapped leads over eight laps with third-placed Ravikumar in the mix.
The contest, at times, turned physical with Rajini and Rahil coming into contact, but both escaped any mishap. “It was a tough race. Rahil is extremely fast, like he was yesterday. I also had an eye on the championship points and didn’t want to make any mistakes like in the previous round when I crashed,” said Rajini.

KY Ahamed (No.33) powering his way to victory in the Prostock 165cc Open race (Oct 10) The Prostock 165cc Open race was full of suspense as to the eventual outcome, though TVS Racing appeared heading towards another podium sweep like on Saturday. The quartet of Ravikumar, Ahamed, Jagan Kumar and Rajiv Sethu was bunched tight at the front with the TVS trio leading by turns.
However, Ravikumar tragically crashed when the front tyre washed away and he was fortunate to fall outside the track on the grass allowing Ahamed, Jagan and Sethu, besides rest of the field to zip through.
