JCT Rallying’s Samir Thapar rolls back years to win Rally Nationals Chennai leg; pushes back leader Gaurav Gill
Irungattukottai (Chennai), 27 July 2014: Samir Thapar and his co-driver Gurinder Mann of JCT Rallying team rolled back the years by winning the MMSC promoted AVT Premium South India Rally, the third round of the FMSCI Indian Rally Championship, here on Sunday.
In the process, Thapar, driving a Mitsubishi Evo X, stopped the winning spree of championship leader Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sherif) of Team Mahindra Adventure who finished overall second ahead of PG Abhilash (Kumar Ramaswamy) in a Evo 6.
Thapar, who enjoyed a sizeable lead overnight over Gill, winner of the previous two IRC rounds in Nashik and Coimbatore, again showcased the pace and power of the Evo by winning all the four Stages, including the Spectator Special Stage with much to spare.
Thapar, 50, had last won a National championship event in 1997 before quitting the sport while for 49-year old Mann, a multiple Indian champion in his hey days, it was his first success since winning the Asia Zone in 2000. Thapar had words of praise for the organizer, MMSC, who he believed did a great job with the event. He commented, “It is a great moment for us oldies and winning an event after such a long time is just fantastic. The Stages, the organization and just about everything here was perfect. Yesterday, during the first loop, I didn’t have the Pirelli tyres which arrived here in time for the second run and they made a huge difference. The car too was just about right and of course, we both are extremely happy to win here today”.
Meanwhile, Rahul Kanthraj (Vivek Bhatt) of Team Yokohama in a Mitsubishi Cedia held his overnight position to win the IRC 2000cc class quite comfortably.
The IRC 1600cc class saw overnight leader Vikram Devadasen (Vivek Bhatt) of Team Yokohama slip to third position as he lost time on hard compound tyres while Arjun Rao (Satish Rajagopal), trailing by eight seconds, seized the opportunity to win while Phalguna Urs (Anoop Kumar) came in second.
In the FMSCI 1600 Cup, Adith KC (Harish KN), placed second overnight, won the honours with leader Raghunandan B (Suraj K) retiring in the day’s first Stage.
Provisional classifications (after Leg 2):

Ganesh Moorthy-Nagarajan bag Pro Expert, Overall titles in Ceat-Mahindra Monsoon Challenge 2014
By Vivek Phadnis
Mangalore, 20 July

Ganesh Moorthy and Nagarajan in action on way to victory in the Ceat Mahindra rally on Sunday. Photo by Vivek Phadnis 2014: Ganesh Moorthy and navigator Nagarajan, with a time penalty of 25 seconds, clinched the title in the Pro Expert category in the Ceat-Mahindra Monsoon Challenge 2014 that concluded here on Sunday. They also emerged as the Overall Champions in the event.
Moorthy-Nagarajan were followed by Karthick M and Sankar Anand, who finished a close second with a time penalty of 29 seconds. Abhijeeth N Pai and Satish Gopalkrishnan bagged the third spot with a time penalty of 38 seconds.
In the Pro Stock category, GJ Amarnath and Mukthiyar Ahmed took the top spot with a total penalty of one minute, 24 seconds, while Sudheendra Hebbar and Sagar M finished second and they earned six seconds more in penalty than the winners. Dinky Varghese and Sakthivel finished third after attracting a total penalty of one minute, 45 seconds.
Anil Kumar and Shiva Kumar won the Amateur class, while Vikas Vijay and Shabina topped the Couple Class and Deepthi Gowda and Varshini Kataya won in the All Ladies Class.
As is clearly seen in the time penalties, it was stiff competition throughout and the winners were decided by the narrowest of margins. Such was the tricky challenge in this event that was conducted under the Time-Speed-Distance format. A TSD rally does not involve high speeds and the emphasis is on precise calculation of speed so that one reaches the finish point as close as possible to the given time. Arriving too early or late attracts penalties.
On Sunday, things proved to be a little tougher for the competitors as they had to battle heavy rain and rough terrain at places apart from several blind corners. This meant that they had to be on their toes all the time. It was a free run, from the overnight halt at Shimoga on Saturday, till the beautiful JogFalls. The rally route touched Kodachadri, KollurTemple, MaravanteBeach and finally arrived here. On Sunday, the total distance covered was 330Km, while it was 375Km on Saturday.
The total prize money is Rs 3.5 lakh. The overall winners were richer by Rs one lakh, while the top three places earned Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 in both categories. The first placed competitors in the Amateur Class received Rs 20,000 and a Terra Trip meter kit worth Rs 30,000. The second and third places received Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
UT Khader, the Honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare, was the chief guest for the prize distribution function.

Seb Ogier/ Ingrassia notch 17th win for Polo R WRC: Rally Poland
Volkswagen has reached another milestone in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC): Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) scored the 17th overall victory for the Polo R WRC at Rally Poland, out of 20 rallies in total. The team result was completed with Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene (N/N) in second place thanks to an outstanding performance, and with Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) executing a resolute catch-up to finish in fifth place. With the WRC summer break just around the corner, Volkswagen has now extended its lead in the manufacturers’ standings to 147 points, which means the earliest that it can be knocked off the top spot is during Rally France in October. The win in Poland was the 21st rally victory for Ogier/Ingrassia, while Mikkelsen made it onto the podium in the ultimate rallying discipline for a second time, having also come second in Sweden. The seventh rally of the season constituted a premiere for Volkswagen, as it was the first time that the team lined up in the Polo R WRC in Poland.
Triple lead in the WRC for Ogier, Latvala and MikkelsenSébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia now have a lead of 50 points ahead of the second half of the season, which gets under way with Rally Finland on 31 July to 3 August. And their closest rivals are in the same camp as them: having finished fifth in Poland just seven tenths of a second behind Mikko Hirvonen (M-Sport Ford), Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila remain in second place overall. And Andreas Mikkelsen has now reclaimed third place in the drivers’ standings thanks to his second place in Poland, and now trails Ogier by 83 points.
High-octane action in Poland: high speeds and lots of jumps
The fifth gravel rally of the year was characterised by high speed – the average pace in Rally Poland was the highest of all the rallies held so far this season. The winner Sébastien Ogier completed the 304.21 kilometres of the rally at a pace of 118.5 km/h. And Andreas Mikkelsen set a new record for the fastest special stage in the history of the Polo R WRC in the championship, with the fastest time he achieved during the ninth special stage – the Norwegian clocked up an average pace of 136.88 km/h over the 12.89 kilometres of the Wieliczki 2 stage. Mikkelsen went at full pelt for 80.21 per cent of this stage.Statistics: 18 fastest times and 26 additional top-three times for Volkswagen. And victory number 17
Having now notched up eleven wins in a row, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia extended the success story of Volkswagen in Poland. Volkswagen remains unbeaten in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) since last year’s Rally Australia. Since making its debut in the event in January 2013, the Polo R WRC has scored 30 podium positions in 20 rallies, 17 of which were outright wins. The double victory for Ogier/Ingrassia and Mikkelsen/Fløene is the fourth of the current season and the sixth such victory in the last ten rallies. Volkswagen has scored the fastest times in 244 of the 365 special stages which it has contended in 2013 and 2014. 565 out of a possible 1,019 top-three times have been clinched by the Polo R WRC. And in Poland, the Wolfsburg-based World Rally Car secured 18 out of a possible 22 fastest times and 44 out of a possible 66 top-three times.High energy: long rally days take it out on the drivers, co-drivers and mechanics
Hard graft and little sleep – Rally Poland pushed the drivers, co-drivers, mechanics and engineers to their limits. Each rally day started in the early hours of the morning and sometimes didn’t finish until after midnight. The drivers and co-drivers also had to contend with long liaison sections, some of which took them as far as Lithuania, where a remote service was also scheduled for the mechanics and engineers. The most impressive energy performance came from the Volkswagen mechanics on theSaturday of the rally: Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila’s crew of mechanics had a mammoth list of work to get through during Saturday’s lunchtime service.Latvala damaged the front left suspension of his Polo R WRC during the 14th special stage of Rally Poland. So within the space of just 28 minutes and with a helping hand from Sébastien Ogier’s crew, Latvala’s mechanics replaced the front dampers, the entire front axle including the steering, the front left spindle, the front underbody protection, the wiper engine, the windscreen, the engine cover and the front left fender, including the mudflap. And last, but not least, the tool bag had to be replaced too, as Latvala/Anttila had used the original bag for emergency repairs during the liaison section. And all the hard work paid off: Latvala/Anttila subsequently moved up from seventh to fifth place overall, won an additional five special stages and were among the top three at all times.
Ogier, Mikkelsen and Latvala grab all the Power Stage points for the second time in a row
The Power Stage, in which bonus points for the drivers’ and co-drivers’ categories are up for grabs for the top three drivers, continues to be a discipline in which Volkswagen excels. There have been 19 Power Stages since the Polo R WRC entered the WRC arena in January 2013, and a Volkswagen duo has been at the top of the rankings on 14 occasions. The Volkswagen drivers and co-drivers picked up bonus points on 35 occasions, thanks to ten second and eleven third places. Sébastien Ogier scored his 15th Power Stage win in total in Rally Poland, and his eleventh with Volkswagen.
The beautiful game: football fever at Rally Poland
The WRC was infected with football fever in Poland thanks to a visit from Poland’s former national goalie and Champions League winner Jerzy Dudek, the excitement of watching the matches together and also lots of football-related action. The Volkswagen Services of the three Polo R WRC vehicles was performed on stylised football pitches. And the most popular way for the team members and visitors alike to pass the time during the many long breaks in the schedule was to challenge each other to some table football matches – including a match between Volkswagen and M-Sport Ford. The Red Bull football freestyle world champion Szymon Skalski demonstrated his footballing skills. And the Volkswagen staff at the service park wore the national strips of their respective home countries. A Brazilian football shirt signed by Volkswagen brand ambassador Neymar Jr. was raffled off by Volkswagen’s partner Castrol together with Sébastien Ogier. And during the autograph signing sessions, the Volkswagen drivers kicked signed footballs into the crowds.
Quotes, day 03, Rally Poland
Sébastien Ogier, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #1
“It’s just brilliant – this win was an important one in the world championship stakes! Julien and I had a perfect rally here in Poland. The stages were incredibly quick – and the huge numbers of fans along the way were simply brilliant. As a driver, you can enjoy every single kilometre. On the final day today, there were some wonderful stretches again where I had to force myself not to go at full pelt. Because obviously we didn’t want to jeopardise our lead too much. I’d like to say a huge thank-you to my team, who provided me with a perfect car every day. The Polo R WRC is simply a great car to drive. You can hurtle through the forest at 200 km/h and everything works like Swiss precision clockwork.”Jari-Matti Latvala, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #2
“It was a rally with some ups and downs, but ultimately a happy ending. I lacked confidence at the beginning and the vehicle set-up wasn’t right, and then we lost a lot of time due to the damaged damper. But ultimately what matters the most is that we managed to hit the right pace again and were therefore able to partially close the gap to the front-runners. I have now also overcome my demons from Rally Poland in 2009, as I managed to win the stage where I was forced to pull out back then. Unfortunately, Sébastien Ogier has increased his overall lead in the WRC – but we will try to reduce the gap again in Finland.”Andreas Mikkelsen, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #9
“Second place and my second podium finish in the WRC – it’s a great result. It was an honour for me to battle it out with the reigning world champion for the top spot for so long. I didn’t manage to beat him and take the lead in the end, but my aim is still to one day stand on the top step of the winners’ rostrum. We will endeavour to gradually improve to the levels of Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala – and we took a big step in that direction here in Poland. For now, though, I’m going to celebrate the fact that I came second and recognise what we achieved this weekend. I really enjoyed the special stages. They were fast and smooth – and that’s the kind of driving I like.”Jost Capito, Volkswagen Motorsport Director
“What a great premiere for Volkswagen in Rally Poland! This WRC event was terra incognita for our team, so securing the fourth one-two victory of the year here and extending our run of successes is a huge achievement for the entire team. Sébastien Ogier was once again in a class of his own in the tough conditions, Andreas Mikkelsen demonstrated why he likes fast and smooth tracks, and Jari-Matti Latvala put in a strong catching-up performance. The mechanics pulled off a major feat to put his Polo R WRC back in the running, so it’s hats off to them. After four long, hard rally days with very little sleep, we all deserve a beer.”And then there was …
… the first podium finish for Ola Fløene in the WRC. Finishing the rally in second place marked Ola’s first time on the winners’ rostrum in the ultimate rallying discipline. The 45-year-old Norwegian only got back into a cockpit for Rally Italy three weeks ago.

Gaurav Gill all set for Queensland challenge: APRC

MRF car in action. Image courtesy FIAAPRC.com The Asia-Pacific Rally Championship is in Australia this weekend for the International Rally of Queensland, where Team MRF drivers Gaurav Gill and Jan Kopecky resume their battle for supremacy.
With one win apiece from the first two rounds, in New Zealand and New Caledonia, Gill and Kopecky come into round three of the championship equal on points, with both needing a win to move into a clear lead. Driving their Team MRF Skoda Fabia Super 2000s, their championship battle has, not surprisingly, been close. Both drivers are the class of the APRC field, with Gill the reigning title holder, and Kopecky last year’s FIA European Rally Champion.
“They’re both extremely talented and competitive drivers,” Team MRF boss, Lane Heenan, said this week.
“While Gaurav has done the Rally of Queensland several times before, this will be Jan’s first time, however he has shown that he has the experience to win events first time out. So we’re expecting another really close battle this weekend.
“We’ve never implied team orders in the past, and we won’t be starting that this weekend. Both drivers will be itching to gain an advantage and will be going for the win. It should be exciting to watch!”
Despite being held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, based out of Caloundra, the weather is looking like being wet for the rally, which will make conditions even more tricky than normal.
Drivers have regularly stated that the forest roads around Imbil have very little grip, and if the forecast rain arrives, then conditions could be treacherous.
It was conditions similar to that which saw Gill’s car needing repair after an off-road excursion in New Caledonia that saw him drop from first to second place by the end of the event.
Since that rally, Gill has been busy, and last weekend won the Rally of Maharashtra, the first round of the Indian Rally Championship.
Both Gill and Kopecky will have a short test session on Wednesday morning, before the rally begins on Saturday.
The International Rally of Queensland will again be based in the Mary Valley, with the service park and event HQ located in Imbil, around two hours north of Brisbane. It is the sixth time the event has been a round of the APRC.
A revised itinerary has dramatically reduced the amount of liaison distance this year, with the majority of the stages being used twice, and two stages being run three times.
The rally is run over a total of 16 stages, over a mixture of fast flowing and sometimes twisty forestry roads. The longest stage of the rally is 35.72km in length.
After a ceremonial start in Caloundra on Friday night, the rally runs on Saturday and Sunday. The event is also round three of the Australian Rally Championship.

Nashik, 15 June 2014: “Gaurav Gill drove as if he was Skiing in wet tarmac and won#rallyofmaharashtra by 1min 48 seconds,” India’s top rally driver posted on his Facebook page after winning the opening round of the FMSCI-Indian Rally Championship in Nashik on Sunday.
Gill and his co-driver Musa Sherif in a Mahindra XUV timed 1 hour, 28 minutes and 30 seconds to clinch the overall honours ahead of Mahindra Adventure teammates and reigning National champions Amittrajit Ghosh and co-driver Ashwin Naik.

Gill, the 2013 Asia Pacific Rally champion, was the fastest in all the stages on Saturday and was yet behind Ghosh going into Sunday’s final day action after being docked penalty owing to delay at the service park.
“The Mahindra team had prepared the XUV very different from the previous year. So I wasn’t very conversant with the vehicle prior to the event. Also the stages were difficult than last year,” Gill said.
Gill, the 2011 National champion, made up for lost time in SS 8 on Sunday morning and appeared to cruise thereafter.
Byram Godrej and Somayya AG won in the IRC 2000 category, Hrishikesh Thackersey and Ninad Mirajgaonkar topped in the IRC 1600 category and Anirudha Ranganekar and Arjun Mehta won in the FMSCI 1600 Cup class.
The second round of the six-round championship will be held in Coimbatore from July 11 to 13.

Reigning World Champions Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia powered to victory in Rally Italia Sardegna, the sixth round of the FIA World Rally Championship. It represents the duo’s fourth win of the season and their 20th world rally victory giving them a 33 point advantage in the Championship. Mads Østberg and Jonas Anderson equaled their best result of the season with second position and Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila were lucky to claim the final podium position after dropping time changing a wheel yesterday. In the FIA World Rally Championship, Latvala continues to be Ogier’s main rival and the Volkswagen team-mates are beginning to pull ahead of third-placed Østberg. In the Manufacturers’ Championship, the German marque has once again extended its advantage and has a 118 point lead over the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. The Polo R WRC has also now racked up 16 wins from 19 starts and the team has claimed 10 consecutive victories with the all-conquering car.Today’s route covered just four stages and it was Østberg who took the advantage in the first stage, extending his advantage over Latvala in the process. The Finn fought back in the following two stages but simply ran out of kilometres to fight for second. Behind the leading trio, Andreas Mikkelsen finished fourth for the third consecutive event and claimed his first-ever Power Stage victory ahead of both his team-mates. Elfyn Evans had another solid rally and finished fifth ahead of Martin Prokop, who has been suffering back problems throughout the rally. Henning Solberg and Robert Kubica rounded off the top eight and local hero Lorenzo Bertelli finished ninth and took the FIA WRC 2 Championship victory, his first-ever win.The seventh round of the FIA World Rally Championship takes the contenders to Poland (26-29 June) where competition will be fought out over stages in both Poland and Lithuania.Rally Italia Sardegna – Final Unofficial Results (subject to scrutineering)1. Ogier leads in Italy, three Polo R WRC fighting for the podium
Sardinia, 7 June 2014: Early end to a gripping duel: Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia lead the Rally Italy comfortably in their Volkswagen Polo R WRC. On the second day of the sixth race of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season, they staged a high quality battle with their team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN). However, the second Volkswagen duo fell back from the lead into third place after suffering tyre damage on the final special stage of the day. The extremely tough conditions on Sardinia also took their toll on Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene (N/N) in the third World Rally Car from Wolfsburg. With a damaged damper they lost valuable time, but in fourth place overall they are still fighting for a place on the podium, as are Latvala/Anttila. Behind Ogier/Ingrassia, Mads Østberg (Citroën), Latvala and Mikkelsen will fight each other for second, third and fourth place on the final 46.84 kilometres of special stages on Sunday.
The difficult Rally Italy course was also responsible for the headlines on Saturday. Latvala, who took the lead on Friday, battled with Ogier for best times and the overall lead on the first three of the day’s four special stages. The duel between the runner up in the world championship and the World Champion was reaching its climax going into the special stage that covers 59.13 kilometres, making it the longest special stage of the year so far. Just 12.3 seconds separated Latvala and Ogier, then the Finn hit a stone a few kilometres after starting “Monte Lerno 2”, damaging a wheel that he then had to change. Latvala will start the final four special stages on Sunday trailing Østberg by 21.3 seconds. Mikkelsen is ranked 36.3 seconds behind Latvala and is in fourth place.Quotes, day 02 Rally Italy
Sébastien Ogier, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #1
“What a rally day! I think Jari-Matti and I have put on a good show for the fans. We both drove at the limit. Jari put in a fantastic time on the first stage, after that I was able to make up some time. At the end, when Julien and I were informed that he had lost time we stopped taking as many risks. We’re now in a great position to win the rally again. But there are four difficult stages scheduled for tomorrow, without service – that’s why we will be concentrating fully on the final day.”Jari-Matti Latvala, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #2
“We need to look ahead: The rally isn’t over yet and we are still in with a chance of taking back second place. Of course I am also disappointed as we are no longer in with a chance of winning. The day didn’t go to plan. On the second stage we lost time through a false alarm due to a defect sensor. When we went to stop, the warning that the water was at a critically high temperature disappeared and we were able to keep going. In the afternoon I skidded sideways at the start of the 60-kilometre special stage, hit a stone and damaged one of my rear wheels. We lost about two minutes to Sébastien and Julien while we changed the tyre.”Andreas Mikkelsen, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #9
“Our plan didn’t quite work out today. We wanted to set our own pace, drive our own rally. If that had been fast enough to beat Mads Østberg, great. If not, never mind. What we really wanted was to drive well and finish in the top four. We hit a large stone on Special Stage 12 and damaged one of the front dampers. As a result we were no longer able to attack on the final 60-kilometre stage and instead tried to contain the damage as much as we could. Which we managed. It’s down to team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala’s bad luck that we are still within reach of the podium. We’re taking things as they come. But the same will be true tomorrow: We aren’t going to risk everything to attack.”Jost Capito, Volkswagen Director of Motorsport
“First place for Ogier, third place for Latvala and fourth place for Mikkelsen – that’s a great intermediate result for Volkswagen, but not what we in the team and the many rally fans had hoped for after the results of the previous days. The Latvala versus Ogier duel was at the highest level of rallying until Jari-Matti’s setback. Both drivers displayed extraordinary driving skills and caused much excitement. No one was as good as them today, so it’s a shame that the duel is over. However, Sunday will be another scorcher at the Rally Italy. On the track, in the cockpit and for everyone following the WRC on Sardinia. The battle for second, third and fourth place could go any way. We’re looking forward to it. As a team we will do our best to take our chances, but our main aim is to get all three Polo R WRCs to finish in the top positions.”And then there was …
… the standard welcome for Ola Fløene. The new, old co-driver at the side of Andreas Mikkelsen, in a Škoda for Volkswagen in the preparation year in 2012, the Volkswagen team members greeted his return to Mikkelsen’s side with a friendly “Happy New Year” on his arrival. And that in mid June.eom/Volkswagen press release

Jan Kopecky beats Gaurav Gill as MRF takes another 1-2 finish

File photo after Kopecky has taken lead in New Caledonia APRC leg on Saturday. An MRF image New Caledonia, 18 May 2014: Team MRF Skoda driver and European Rally Champion Jan Kopecky beat team-mate Gaurav Gill to win Round 2 of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) in New Caledonia. Both MRF Skoda drivers were under investigation for postponing the start of Stage 13 as what they thought were unsafe conditions but both escaped with light penalties. Gill was comfortably leading yesterday before an accident caused him suspension damage. After two rounds, Kopecky and Gill are joint leaders with almost nothing to choose from them.
Driving the Team MRF Skoda Fabia S2000, Kopecky was in the driver’s seat with a 5 min lead heading into day 2. 2 stages were cancelled on Saturday, and SS12 was cancelled this morning. Then news came that the last 3 stages would also not run as conditions were so bad that the safety car also could not get through. Both drivers felt the conditions were impossible to drive in and hence requested for safer conditions before resuming.
2013 European Rally Champion Jan Kopecky admitted he has happy for the rally to finish after driving in very tough conditions. He said, “I am happy to have my first win of the season and the Team MRF Tyres Skoda team have been great in really tough conditions. I have to say I didn’t enjoy my driving so much, with so much mud. One stage I liked it was in the North, more like a proper stage, the rest was like driving over the fields in the mud, I didn’t enjoy so much. Our gap (today) was quite huge, so I didn’t want to make a mistake. There was no pressure and I was relaxed in the car, there was one stage in the North I enjoyed and each time I was able to go quicker than Gaurav, so it was good for us. We are now on equal points with Gaurav, that’s good for championship. If you have a close battle from the start its always better. Next is Australia – I’ve never been there, so a new country, a new rally we are looking forward to it.”
Defending champion Gill rued the fact that his mistake yesterday cost him the win but was happy to salvage 2nd place. He commented, “We had a good lead and a health margin, but unfortunately we got caught out by the conditions yesterday and found a tree on the exit of a corner, wasn’t so good for the car and we bent a suspension arm. Glenn (Macneall) and I had to do some repairs, the drive the last stage very conservatively. We’re happy to finished the day yesterday and today fastest of the day, so maximum points in the kitty – the best I could have done.”
Jan Kopecky and his Team MRF Skoda team next head to Australia on equal points (to be confirmed) with his team-mate Gaurav Gill in second. Many stages were cancelled after heavy rain made the roads impossible. The next round of the 2014 APRC is the International Rally of Queensland which will take place next month. Full bonus points will apply as the event had reached the required threshold. Last year 5 stages were cancelled on the final day, again after torrential rain.
