Kush Maini secures an impressive third position in the BRDC British F3 Driver’s Championship

A proud moment for Kush Maini. Silverstone, 15 October 2018: BRDC British F3 Series rookie, Kush Maini weathered the literal storm at the Silverstone race circuit over the weekend to complete his season in third position in the championship. Debuting at the BRDC F3 Championship this season, Kush secured the third spot with a total of 366 points that consisted of eight podiums, including a win at Rockingham.
In the last race for the season, the JK Racing-supported driver from Bengaluru could manage only 15th during the weekend’s qualifying session due to set up related issues, but showed great race craft during the weekend’s first race to make up five places and eventually finish 10th.
Due to extremely poor weather conditions, Sunday saw limited running with Race 2 being halted after two laps behind the safety car and Race 3 called off due to poor visibility.
With the weekend adding 20 points to his standings, Kush closed his season third behind Linus Lundqvist who finished as Championship Winner and Nicolai Kjaergaard who took second place in the Championship, both of whom had prior experience racing in the UK.
The 2018 season was a season of firsts for Kush who displayed tremendous pace and consistently finished on the podium during the season which commenced on March 31 at Oulton Park and ended on October 14 at Silverstone Circuit, after eight triple header events for a total of 24 races. This year’s Championship saw 25 drivers from 14 countries take part in the races, with Kush finishing as the top Indian driver in the standings.Speaking on his season Kush said: “I’m happy to have finished third in the championship and also especially happy about my performances during the first half of the season which were a little stronger compared to the latter. I am grateful for a strong debut season and look forward to a strong 2019 season backed by the generous support of my partners, family and well-wishers.”
Kush now heads into the off-season where he will evaluate his plans for 2019.

Triple podium for Rajini Krishnan in Malaysian SBK; finishes second runner-up in the championship

Rajini Krsishnan….triple poidium in Malaysian SBK. Photo: RACR Kuala Lumpur, 10 October 2018: India’s leading rider, Rajini Krishnan, riding a Yamaha YZF R1, enjoyed a fruitful weekend with three podium spots, including one win, as he ended his campaign in the 2018 Malaysian Superbike Championship by finishing third in the series at the Sepang International Circuit here on Sunday.
The 33-year old Azlan Shah Kumaruzaman of Chia PJ Kawasaki Racing team riding a Ninja ZX-10R won the championship.
The weekend saw the fourth and fifth rounds being run with a total of four races. In Saturday’s Round 4 double-header. Rajini qualified second and finished second in Race-1 and won Race-2. Krishnan was the 2015 1000cc champion of the Malaysian SBK. He also finished runner-up in 2017.
On Sunday, he again finished second in Race-1, but pulled out of the second race which cost him a second place in the championship and he eventually ended up second runner-up by a mere one point.
Reflecting on Sunday’s fiasco, Rajini said: “As the weather wasn’t bad, I went out on Slick tyres. However, once I reached the grid, it started to rain. The Race Control declared the race as wet and gave a time of 15 minutes for the riders to change their tyres from slicks to wet.
“As we did not have a spare wheel, I decided to go out again on the same slick tyres. During the sighting lap, I couldn’t ride my bike and it was a huge risk to ride with the slick tyres in the rain. So we decided to withdraw from the race.
“I ended up in losing my first runner-up position in the championship and finished second runner-up champion by just one point.
“I would like to thank my sponsors and friends who backed me for this season. I hope to do much better in the next season. The results could have been better with more sponsorship funding. We needed a better braking system as we had severe issues with brakes during the season including a major crash due to brake fade. Also, a lack of a spare wheel cost me the second place in the championship by just one point.”

Advait returns to NASCAR Whelen Euro Round 5
Mumbai, 13 Sept. 2018: Indian racer Advait Deodhar will make his return in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series after three successful rounds earlier this year, where he also became the first Indian in history to win in a NASCAR event in Europe.
The 28-year-old from Mumbaikar based in London made his return to competitive racing earlier after a gap of three years winning a scholarship to race in the America’s popular stock car racing’s European arm.
Advait started his season in the Elite Club which he leads by four points from Marcelo Silva. He then made his debut in the Elite 2 class in Round 3. He now returns to compete in both the categories this weekend at Hockenheimring, Germany, the circuit which hosted this year’s Formula 1 race.
The Indian will drive the Ford Mustang for Speedhouse in the Elite Club category to start the weekend and then switch to Dexwet DF1 Racing for the Elite 2 run in the Ford Mustang. Advait will have the backing of London’s Superyacht brokerage, TJB SUPERYACHTS LTD on his cars.
“It is good to be back,” says Advait. “In the Elite Club in the last round, I finished second by the closest of margins. Now I am going for a win to extend my championship lead over Marcelo.
“It was a learning debut weekend at Brands Hatch for me in the Elite 2 category. I showed some promising signs but then I made some big errors that resulted in retirements and a penalty. I was over aggressive,” he admitted.
“The break gave me some time to rethink the strategy and this weekend I’m going in with a calmer mind and not try to win the race on Lap 1 itself. It’s a long race and I need to concentrate and drive smart. With good practice, I aim for a Top-10 result.”
Ever since moving to the United Kingdom, Advait has been looking to make a switch from single-seater to sportscar/touring car racing. In 2016, the Mumbaikar came close to secure a drive in Porsche Carrera Cup GB, but budgetary limitations hampered his return.
The Indian then earned his Elite Club drive after a test run in January at Circuit Fontenay-Le-Comte, France when he was watched on by the NASCAR organisation. Advait became only the first Indian to win a NASCAR event and second Indian to drive in the European championship after a brief run by Sailesh Bolisetti in the 2013 season. India’s first Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan has also raced in NASCAR, but he competed in the NASCAR Truck division in America.

The 2018 season was a season of firsts for Kush who displayed tremendous pace and consistently finished on the podium during the season which commenced on March 31 at Oulton Park and ended on October 14 at Silverstone Circuit, after eight triple header events for a total of 24 races. This year’s Championship saw 25 drivers from 14 countries take part in the races, with Kush finishing as the top Indian driver in the standings.

The Team MRF Tyres Ford Fiesta R5 will be competing with 23 other R5 entries in what will be a very competitive field.
